MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

November Newsletter

Hello.  I just wanted to give you all a quick update on a few things going on with the league.  The workload is starting to increase quite a bit and we could use some more board members to help us out.  If anyone is interested in a board position, email me, MRBA Presidentand we can discuss your interest.

COACHES:
Remember, if you are planning on managing or coaching next season, whether you are a returning coach or a new coach, please send me an email stating your intentions ASAP.  MRBA President There will be a coaches meeting on Dec. 16th at 7pm at the Key Bank in Enumclaw.  You will need to have your coaches application completed and turned in before or at this meeting. The application can be found in the "Handouts" section of the website. Don't forget that you must also have your Coaches certification done before the player evaluations. This meeting will spell out our expectations and give you a chance to ask questions. This meeting is mandatory for anyone interested in coaching or managing a team.

Registration costs.
 Major 70 - $150:
The only public youth baseball league on the Plateau that offers 70' base paths with a 50' pitching distance for the Majors Division (11 - 12).  This means that players are leading off and the pitchers are picking off runners.  This is true baseball played by MLB rules. Players must go through the draft unless frozen by a coach.
Minors - $135:

Our Minors play on 60 foot base path and pitch form 45 feet. Steeling is allowed after the pitch is received at the plate. Players must go through the draft unless frozen by a coach.
 Rookie - $115:

The machine pitch, Rookies, division uses newer, up-to-date machines that are virtually noise-free, accurate and safe. To promote fairness, we are no longer able to accept team placement requests . Players will be grouped by area whenever possible.

T-Ball - $55:
Our T-Ball division is second to none.  This is where we teach the players the basics and build the love for the game.  Every T-ball player will receive a hat, jersey, and baseball pants
.

MRBA has the best post-season schedule on the Plateau.  Our all-star teams DO NOT have to go to a District tournament.  They will participate in several warm-up tournaments and then our teams go directly to the State Tournament.  Last season, our 12U 70' team went to the Regional Tournament in Eugene, OR.  They were 1-step away from the World Series!

League Costs:

Our league treasurer, David Delyea, has made a pie chart that explains how much it costs to put a player on the field.  As you can see, it was necessary to increase our league fees this year or we would be hurting for money.  Our yearly fundraising requirements will help us offset the deficit and allow us to save some funds to replace equipment as needed.

Player Evaluations:
We have 2 dates scheduled for our Majors and Minors player evaluations.  The Majors will be evaluated on January 31st. February 1st will be the make up date for any Majors not able to attend on the 31st. Both dates are 1pm - 6pm at the Enumclaw Middle School gym.  The Minors will be evaluated on February 7th with the  8th as the make up date, Both dates are also 1pm-6pm at the Enumclaw Middle School gym.  All players not frozen by their coaches MUST attend one of these evaluations to be eligible to play next season.  Mark these dates in your calendar now.

 Winter Training- WOW
NW Diamond Sports, 123 Steward St. in Puyallup, is offering an inexpensive training opportunity at their indoor facility.  Over the last few weeks, 20 to 30 MRBA players and families have been attending 2-hour public training sessions (6-8pm) for players ages 7 - 12 every Saturday.  The cost of this program is only $10 per session, per player and you can attend as much or as little as you like.  This program will be available throughout the winter.  NW Diamond Sports will be providing current college baseball players as the instructors.  If you are interested or have questions, email Mike Klapperich at m_klapperich@hotmail.com

The 2009 season will be upon us sooner than we think.  We have revised the Constitution and it is posted on the "Handouts" section of the website.  We are currently working on the Bylaws, a coach's handbook, and some other materials that will ensure the values of MRBA will continue year after year.  Remember, the board meeting on the first Tuesday of each month is open to the public.  If you want to attend so you can see what goes on in these meetings, or if you have questions, you are more than welcome to attend.  The meeting schedule is posted on the website.  We meet at the Enumclaw Key Bank at 6pm.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns you can email me anytime at president@playMRBA.org.  You can also email me if you are interested in becoming a board member or would like to volunteer your time to help the league.

Some of our new positions are still available:

Tournament Coordinator, a second scheduler, Grant Writer,  and many others. (please review the constitution for a full list of positions)

That's it for now.  The MRBA Board and I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving.
