MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
October Newsletter
Happy October! I
realize I didn't send a newsletter in September and I apologize for
that. It was a busy month for most of us and we are heavy into
planning for next season. This newsletter will cover most of what
we have been working on.
COACHES
If you are planning on managing or coaching next season, whether you
are a returning coach or a new coach, please send me an email
stating your intentions ASAP.
mrbapres@comcast.net.
There will be a coaches meeting on Dec. 16th
at 7pm at the Key Bank in Enumclaw. You will need to have
your coaches application completed and turned in before this
meeting. The application can be found in the
"Handouts"
section of the website. Don't forget you must also have your
Coaches certification
done by this meeting. This meeting will spell out our expectations
and give you a chance to ask questions. This meeting is mandatory
because it will give us an idea of how many coaches are interested
and it will be our first look at new faces.
This is an important meeting, so your attendance is required.
FUNDRAISING
As I have said in the past, fundraising is an important part
of keeping this league running. Last year's registration fees were
far below what it actually cost to put your child into MRBA. This
year's registrations will also be below the actual cost.
Fundraising is a way of leveling that out. We know that some people
do not like to fundraise and we will be offering the buy-out option
again this year. Those of you that do not use
the buy-out option will be REQUIRED to fundraise. Our
fundraising director is working hard on ideas for some events next
season. If anyone is interested in helping, let me know and I will
pass that information on to her.
REGISTRATION Opens November
5th
We are going to open online registrations on November 5th and the
paper registration will go out to the schools the first week of
December. We will also post a printable registration on the website
in December. Keep in mind that registration costs went up this
season.
Major 70 - $150
Minors - $135
Rookie - $115
T-Ball - $55
MRBA is also feeling the sting of the current economy and the
rate hike is necessary to keep us running. We will post some
information on the website soon that explains how much it actually
costs to put a player through our program.
Registrations will close on
January 31st, Please help us prepare by signing up early!
BOARD MEETINGS
Remember that our open board meetings are on
the first Tuesday of every month, 6pm, at the Key Bank in Enumclaw.
All parents are welcome to come and listen or ask questions. You
may even become interested in taking a board position. We are still
looking for people to fill vacant positions.
Come to the November 4th meeting and find out
what's going on in your league. All meeting dates are
posted on the website.
Player Evaluations
We have 2 dates scheduled for our Majors and Minors player
evaluations. The Majors will be evaluated on
January 31st and February 1st, 1pm - 6pm at the Enumclaw Middle
School gym. The Minors will be evaluated on February 7th and 8th,
same time and place. All players not frozen by their coaches
MUST attend one of these evaluations to be eligible to play next
season. Mark these dates in your calendar now. We will provide
more information the closer these days get.
Winter
Training- WOW
NW Diamond Sports, 123 Steward St. in
Puyallup, is offering an inexpensive training opportunity at their
indoor facility. Starting Nov. 8th from 4pm
to 6pm they will have a 2-hour public training session for players
ages 7 - 12 every Saturday. The cost of this program is only $10
per session and you can attend as much or as little as you like.
This program will be available throughout the winter. NW Diamond
Sports will be providing current college baseball players as the
instructors. If you are interested or have questions, email Mike
Klapperich at
m_klapperich@hotmail.com
The 2009 season will be upon us sooner than we think.
We have revised the
Constitution and it is posted on the "Handouts"
section of the website. We are currently working on
the Bylaws, a coach's handbook, and some other materials that will
ensure the values of MRBA will continue year after year. Remember,
the board meeting on the first Tuesday of each month is open to the
public. If you want to attend so you can see what goes on in these
meetings, or if you have questions, you are more than welcome to
attend. The meeting schedule is posted on the website. We meet at
the Enumclaw Key Bank at 6pm.
If you have any questions, comments, and concerns you can email me
anytime at
president@playMRBA.org. You can also email me if you are
interested in becoming a board member or would like to volunteer
your time to help the league.
Some of our new positions are still available:
Tournament Coordinator, a second
scheduler, Clinic Coordinator, Grant Writer, and many others. (please
review the constitution for a full list of positions)
