We all know that Freeway is a great web development software that utilizes aspects of today's typical desktop publishing workflow. These tutorials, listed below, offer an even greater understanding to the functionality of the software. All of the tutorials here are fully documented and tested, some have even been used by editors at MacUser and have been mentioned in MacWorld. Be sure to check back as you will always find the latest and greatest tutorials here.

Blogger

  • Blogger is a free blogging platform provided by Google. It is well known and respected, but designing a template with custom content can be tricky and time consuming. Freeway's custom Blogger Action's make creating a custom template simple and fast. Within minutes you can have a blog looking just how you want it without having to code anything.

CSS

  • This tutorial will briefly talk about the differences in using temporary and permanent CSS styling in Freeway, what the difference between the Tag and Name fields are in the CSS window, and then I'll wrap up with briefly talking about using an external CSS editor such as CSSEdit from macrabbit.com.

  • The body tag is unique because it is the parent tag of most elements that you style in your page. Like any good parent, any child elements will inherit styling properties from the body tag. When you style the body tag in CSS, you're setting default parameters or properties for the whole page or the entire site. If you were to set "Helvetica" as the font-family in your body tag, all fonts on the page would be Helvetica unless you style the child elements differently.

  • In this tutorial we're going to be using an action from FreewayActions.com called List Item Images and it can be downloaded here. What this action enables us to do is to take a list (unordered or ordered) of items and instead of having black bullets next to each list item, we can have a little image or icon. This is a quick and easy way to style an entire series of list items with just a series of simple clicks.

  • Creating hyperlink state styles in Freeway is essentially styling various versions of any hyperlink on your page or website. Hyperlinks, in web terms, is a reference (or address) to a resource on the web. Hyperlinks can create links to another page, an image, etc.

ExpressionEngine

  • This tutorial is about setting up an ExpressionEngine installation to create a CMS-based website that can be viewed (and worked on) locally using software named MAMP. If you'd rather work in a LIVE setting, meaning on an actual webserver, this tutorial will help you as well. This tutorial will be a preliminary (and optional) step in to the Setting Up An ExpressionEngine Site In Freeway tutorial found on this website.

NOTE: This tutorial will require some advanced web development experience.

  • In this tutorial we'll be covering the steps required to have our Freeway created document be successfully used in ExpressionEngine installed using MAMP. If you've followed the tutorial on Setting Up ExpressionEngine Using MAMP or have ExpressionEngine already installed successfully on a server, you'll now be ready to go.

NOTE: I will be using the Action suite from Joe Muscara and will make references to MAMP for this tutorial. I highly recommend purchasing the EE action suite as it makes this process, and the process of building a fully EE-based site, a lot easier. Thanks Joe.

Freeway Basics

  • Apple has rolled out in its 1.13 firmware update for the iPhone and iPod Touch devices the ability for users to add home screen bookmarks of their favorite web sites to their native home screen. They refer to these as WebClip Bookmarks. By default, the icon that is represented for these home screen bookmarks is a thumbnail screenshot of the page in question, but Apple has provided a way for site owners to specify an icon to be used instead. These icons closely resemble favicons (the icon used next to the URL in the address bar) and are simple to make. So let's get started!

  • In this tutorial we'll learn how to make a simple gradient background using Freeway 5 Pro. If you're using any other Pro version of Freeway the instructions should work the same.

  • In this tutorial we'll learn how to make a simple gradient background using Freeway 5 Express. If you're using any other Express version of Freeway the instructions should work the same.

  • This tutorial will teach you how to create a simple fading slideshow using a series of images for your website. These slideshow's are often done using Flash or through a Flash-based component but this method uses a Javascript-based alternative making it great for showing slideshow's on, for example, an iPhone mobile device.

SlideShowPro

  • SlideShowPro is a complete photo and video slideshow publishing solution from slideshowpro.net. It enables web developers to create customizable web-based slideshow's with a few clicks of the mouse button. Currently, SSP comes in three flavors. The first being a standalone version for users who don't own Adobe Flash. The second is a component / extension version that acts as a plugin for users who already own Adobe Flash. The third version is for Adobe Lightroom 1 and 2 and is a more affordable version for people who want all the custom options without paying the price of Flash or are uncomfortable about editing XML files.

  • If you've been following along with the SlideShowPro for Lightroom into Freeway tutorials you'll now be taking it a step further. If you've ever wanted to publish two or more slideshows (each with the same design and appearance) and you'd like to combine the content into a single presentation, this tutorial will show you how.
