No, I'm not at all Canadian; I'm the one who's been posting the lyrics
to the songs on 'Songs of LC'...By the way [trivia quiz!], in which Cohen
song do the words "I'm the one who..." appear? Anyway, is it really an
obvious meaning that this song is about a messed up relationship? I mean,
there is a 'goodbye' in the song, but what suggests that there is anything
messed up? What did you have to say about this in your high school class?

That's relative; each provincial system is different as each state
is different here in the U.S. Ontario has 13 grades; Quebec has 11
plus a two year pre-college (called a "colle`ge", but the word college
has a different meaning altogether up north; university is university
and college is usually trade school).

I went to school in Manitoba (borders upon Minnesota and N. Dakota)
and we didn't study Cohen poetry in our school; schools also vary
>From district to district, and my part of town had history courses
more tuned into the English-French relationship than those others
>From the West have studied. Cohen would have been nice to go along
with Gabrielle Roy (pronounced "roo-ah" w/French "r").

In my Ontario high school (yes, Ontario is in Canada) some of the Grade 13
English classes studied Lenny's novel Beautiful Losers. Mine didn't, 'tho.

Is there anyone who has attended a Canadian High School? I
recently talked to some folks who said they actually studied
some of LC's poetry.

I took a musical poetry type class in a US high school. We
did manage to go over "That No Way to Say Goodbye".
