The Old Man of the Mountains

With the loss of such an important part of the White Mountains we felt it only proper to put up some sort of tribute to his passing. By pure coincidence we happened to be camping in the area the weekend the Old Man fell. That allowed us to be some of the first people on the scene...and what a scene it was! All we're going to do here is show a few pictures from that day and give you a couple of links to other tribute pages. Our hope is that this will spark some great ol' memories for you.

Some of our photos from Saturday, May 3rd

Picture 1:  This is the first glimpse we got of the cliffs. It just seemed so strange to look where we've looked a thousand times but this time, there was nothing to see!
Picture 2:  Here's one more taken without the zoom.
Picture 3:  And here's another close up shot.
Close Up:  This one has the most detail.
New Profile?:  And this one shows what could very well be the new profile!
Old/New:  This is someone else's shot showing a composite of what was and what now is.
    Daniel Webster's Words

"Men hang out their signs indicative of their respective trades; shoe makers hang out a gigantic shoe; jewelers a monster watch, and the dentist hangs out a gold tooth; but up in the Mountains of New Hampshire, God Almighty has hung out a sign to show that there He makes men."
