Jordan 2nt
|
The Jordan 2NT convention is used when you partner opens
the bidding in a Major and your RHO makes a takeout double. A bid of 2NT
here shows a Limit Raise or Better for your partner. The bid is entirely
artificial and in no way promises a stopper in the opponent's suit. If
your partner has any extra values he should bid 4 of the Major. If he has
a mimimum hand he would only bid 3. With more than a minimum for your bid
you can correct to 4. This treatment allows you to distinguish between a
true limit raise and a preemptive raise. Bidding 3 of your partner's suit
directly would show 4-Card support and a weak hand. Redouble would show
10+ PTS. and implies no fit, whereas if you bid a NEW Suit on the 2 Level
it is weak. If you raise your Partner's Suit to the 2 Level you are
showing a natural raise. Points to Clarify: Do you promise 4-card support when you bid Jordan 2nt? Do you use Jordan 2nt in Response to a Minor Suit Opening by your partner?

South opens 1S and West makes a T/O double. This partnership has agreed to play Jordan 2nt to show a limit raise or better in support of Spades. South bids 4S showing extras. North then considers a Slam but knowing West doubled for takeout passes when South reveals he only has 2 Aces. If slam hadn't crossed his mind he might have let the opponents play this contract doubled! |
