Before I Kill You, Mr. Bond

  • Year: 1996
  • Maker: Cheapass Games
Before I kill you, Mister Bond, I am going to tell you my entire life story, because I believe that you are the only man alive who would understand..."

I found this simple card game in a small comic book store while I was on a business trip in California. It was only $5.00 and it had to do with James Bond, so I couldn't resist.

The basic premise of the game is to capture secret agents in your lair (each player is a villain) and either kill them right away, which doesn't give you many points, or keep them for additional turns for more points. The only problem is the longer you keep an agent captive, the more time the agent has to escape. This game is based on what happens in almost every Bond movie, where the villain is so confident of his plan, that he keeps Bond around long enough for Bond to change the odds and ultimately destroy the villain's plans.

The only thing specific to Bond in this game is the use of Bond's name (including a Bond agent card), and there are also some cards that sound very familiar if you've ever watched the Bond movies. An interesting note is that this game uses only the last name Bond, which may be the reason why this game doesn't need permission from EON and is not considered an authorized James Bond game.

I must admit that I haven't played the game yet, but it does look fun. I'll update my review if I ever get around to playing it.

Das Quartett für Agenten

  • Year: 1990 (I think)
  • Maker: Altenburg-Stralsunder AG

I have this game because of my addiction to Ebay. I saw a German-based, James Bond game and I told myself I had to have it.

The problem is, the rules are in German and I have no idea how to play it. However, I don't have to read German to see that it is a pretty simple game; kind of like an advanced Go Fish, if that's possible.

When this game finally arrived in a German-marked package, I was somewhat disappointed. The cards themselves are pretty cheaply made and the pictures on them are not the best quality; however, there are some pictures that I have never seen before.

As I noted above, I think the game was made in 1990, so there are cards from the Sean Connery movies all the way up to the Timothy Dalton movies. The featured movies in the deck include:

  • Goldfinger
  • You Only Live Twice
  • Live and Let Die
  • The Spy Who Loved Me
  • For Your Eyes Only
  • The Living Daylights
  • Licensed to Kill

Sadly, George Lazenby from On Her Majesties Secret Service, one of the better Bond films, got snubbed again.

If someone out there has this game and can send me the translated rules, I'll post them here and finally be able to play this game!
