The Gay & Married Men's Association of Philadelphia
Welcome to the support group for Gay
and Married Men in Philadelphia.
We welcome residents and visitors to Southeastern Pennsylvania,
Central & Southern New Jersey, and Delaware.
The Gay & Married Men's Association of Philadelphia, which is not affiliated with any other organization, is a volunteer not-for-profit peer support group for gay or bisexual men who are presently or formerly married or in a relationship with a woman, or who are contemplating such a relationship. Some members are in conventional marriages, some in open marriages, some are separated, some divorced, some widowed, some with lovers, some without, some in yet other arrangements—all are welcome and will find among us others who share their particular style of life.
GAMMA has no official party line. It neither encourages nor discourages gay or bisexual men from continuing or forming relationships with their wives, other women, or other men. Rather, it seeks to assist each gay or bisexual man in finding his own best road to travel in life. Much of this is accomplished through open, candid discussion and sympathetic sharing of thoughts, experiences, and feelings among members of GAMMA, in a safe, confidential space.
GAMMA meets from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at:
The William Way Community Center
1315 Spruce St.
Philadelphia, PA 19107
(215) 732-2220
Meetings, facilitated by experienced members of the group, are open information-sharing sessions, and they proceed as follows. After initial introductions and updates by each attendee, two subgroups form. This allows for more in-depth conversation among a smaller group of members. A leader will be designated for each sub-group, and will assist in the navigation of the conversation, if necessary. At approximately 9:15, the groups rejoin. The leaders give a general description of what was discussed. Announcements and the closing circle follow and complete the meeting. A voluntary contribution of $5.00 is collected to cover rental of the meeting space, plus other expenses. There are no mandatory dues or fees. After meetings, GAMMA members often socialize. If there is time, some of the socializing can be done within the meeting space until 10 p.m. The William Way Community Center closes promptly at 10 p.m.
GAMMA is an organization
where someone can
find another who is following a similar journey. The sharing of these
experiences have
brought about lifelong friendships. Through these friendships, many men
socialize outside the context of the GAMMA meetings.
GAMMA does attempt to have regular social activities for the group at large.
Many occur on weekends, and the Wednesdays on which meetings are not
scheduled. All members are welcome to participate in these scheduled events.
