"The
bullion stitch used to be called the roll stitch many years ago, and I thought
that sounded better in that it didn't sound like a soup. Come to think of
it, the roll stitch does
sound like bread! I think you will be really surprised at what our
designers, especially Bonnie Pierce, came up with. We use the roll stitch as
an accent with other stitches, and the results are innovative and fun. You
don't need the special hooks, but they are really great for those of us who
have had trouble learning the stitch. Actually I am using one of them right
now to crochet a baby set that has absolutely no roll stitches in it. I
just like the hooks. The shank is nice and long."
