I am not sure what has spurred the travel bug in me all of a sudden, other than all the traveling I will be doing for the next little bit. I used to travel quite frequently--either just roaming around the country by myself or with others. I think at some point (probably during my 9th or 10th 10 hour commute to see my girl in Colorado) I began to see the relevance of Emerson's notion that travel is a fool's paradise. I guess all the fun was sucked out of it because I was going back and forth to the same place so often, and not having the opportunity to add new destinations to it. Somewhere along the line travel just became a pain instead of an adventure.

However right now I like the idea of bumming around in a Winebago, like some 21st century gypsy. I don't like, however, the idea of parking in one of those RV lots--you know the kind where everyone parks and stays inside their spiffy houses on wheels to watch their TV and eat their bad food? I would prefer to roam the country and park behind seedy bars or in Sears parking lots. Something bothers me about gathering en masse at RV parks. I just have an idea that if one does go to such places no one will ever leave you alone, and will have the burning need to share idiotic RV park travel stories with you. I like being left alone, you see. I prefer to control who comes to bother me.
