Helper monkey from hell Cordelia mentioned the other day that she and her friend Amy really liked the snow-shoeing image I have on the slightly revamped front end. Now I would really like to take credit for that image, but I have to admit that I have egregiously stolen it from American Memory, a site sponsored by the U.S. Library of Congress. Since the LOC has very generous fair use policies, there is nothing illegal or untoward in it, but ethically I should give them (and the photographer credit). I will remedy that directly (which translates to when I stop goofing off by going out and socializating). In any case, when I told her it was not mine, Cordelia made the comment (not a verbatim quotation) that it "looked like my style." That's pretty flattering, I suppose, but it is mostly why I chose the image. Somehow it looked like a picture I would take. By the way, the picture was taken in Utah--some time in the 30's, I think. In other news, I noticed that blogdex.org has once again listed Helping Hands, a site dedicated to providing helper monkeys for the disabled. Most of the sites that list it make some very tedious Simpsons references, and other monkey butler jokes, but I will say that watching the video available on the site, I was quite moved. Now I am not one to deny the whole Planet of the Apes potential of helper monkeys, but the video has moved me to seriously consider donating my piece-of-shit car Christine to them. What the hell do I need a car for? I think independence for another of us on the planet is probably more important than letting my money pit sit in my garage. Anyway, how can you not feel for a guy who is actually consider of the feelings of his non-human helper? And I would like a monkey named Hellion, even if it didn't feed me applesauce.

Last night at the Jazz game I saw far more people I know than I really wanted to. For the sake of complete non sequitur, why is it at the Delta Center (home of the Jazz) the sweepers insist on sweeping right through the middle of a large crowd? Does it really matter if someone has to tread through straw wrappers? Something about meeting up with various people on the spur of the moment through pure chance, and being nice and busy, and not having time to write anything. Reflexivity. I came home and slept for 3 hours. Crossed with the fog we are experiencing here in good old SLC, and I'm not really sure what time it is at any time. It would be cool to try to go see it, but I think they shoot people who go out on to the test range. In other news, Kansas City lost, the Eagles are just about to win in over time, and staying up until 6:00 am really fucks with your Sunday too. My night owlish-ness is really going to mess with me this week. Entry 301-499 (permanent) posted by Clint on Sunday,January 11,2004 at 06:04:31 PM. comment |
