A sincere thanks to everyone for their support of community radio

If you're small and on a search
I can't look at the rocket launch
The trophy wives of the astronauts
And I won't listen to their words
'Cause I like
Birds.

Thursday,April 29,2004The needs of the one outweigh the needs of the many
Bizarre covert quasi-Seinfeldian task of the day that will probably make you appear to be quite geeky, if not idiotic: subtly work into any conversation you have today references to Star Trek II, the Wrath of Khan. You get bonus points if you use the word "katra." Report back here.
Again it must be subtle. You cannot, for example, purposefully start a conversation about WoK.

Wednesday,April 28,20043 hours to wonder
Who'd
have thunk it--snow in almost May. Ok,
it isn't much snow, but still it is something to comment upon.
It is definitely a Nick Drake evening, either that or Mclusky. They are both in my CD player wrecking havoc against each other.
Ok that is the second rathergood.com link I've posted today. That's bad of me not to even reference them.
By the way, I like the moon too. Eeesh. 3. As rathergood.com says, "oh fuck a pig."

Beware of pretty faces that you find./A pretty face may hide an evil mind
I'm in for it now for that last post, aren't I? (Scroll down a bit into the story.) By the way, hi, Mr. Secret Agent Man and or Woman!
Now back to the whimsy.
And with that, here is more news of persecuted authors.
Depressing, isn't it?
Nationalism really needs to go.
Is that soft enough for you?
Oh, what the hell. Laugh it up.

Sunday,April 25,200450 Foot Wave
Kristin Hersh is in town today to play with her new band 50 Foot Wave. They are playing at Kilby Court, a place that was decidedly more interesting when it was underground. (It was a place that started up without a business license and allowed people to bring their own booze in, so it was busted in a spectacular raid quite like you might see during Prohibition by SLC's finest a few years back.) Basically it is an all-ages venue now, so the place seems to revolve around the sensibilities of teenagers (as does most pop culture because A) they live with the parents who give them cash, and 2) they necessarily have more of that cash to spend on bad music because of A).) Now I will give Kilby the credit in that they bring in good non-mainstream bands it is just the heimers that hang out there most of the time that make it tedious. In any case, I really don't care about the people who are there as much as I like the music they bring in, so ultimately it doesn't matter then does it? I wouldn't even write this rant against poor Kilby Court if I weren't so regularly accosted by friends by how much they hate Kilby Court these days. "God not at Kilby court!" They usually exclaim. Just the other day, for example, friend Melissa went on a 5 minute session about the place on the slightest provocation. Friend Jeff also lets me know how he feels about the place whenever a band he wants to see is playing there.
Perhaps it is just the reaction to what the place used to be, and the slipperiness of "cool." Coffee shops are seemingly destroyed by their very popularity. Bars even lose it. Television. Writers. Bands themselves. Something that was cool is easily made uncool by its very popularity. Isn't that what people call "Fonzie's Law"? Now how uncool is that, mentioning Fonzie in a journal entry. Sheesh, what a dickweed.
Is it cool to be a dickweed? I forget.
