Rain Round-up or Nothing is as Good as It Seems

And so the rain persists today, too. Other Utahnites have commented upon it.

Like most of the bloggity folk, D-Lo sees it from two perspectives, seemingly reflecting some inner turmoil:

It has rained for the past few days... both a welcome beauty and an unwelcome beast. But at least I was able to sleep well last night... lured to sleep by the sound of the lightly dripping rain outside my window. .. by the sound of a welcome voice... by the silence of a lately troubled mind...

There seems to be some consistency in problems with the rain, however. While claiming to enjoy it, there is an element of danger in it for Snyder:

A message to the lady who almost ran into me because she was driving a stick shift while talking on the cell phone, putting on her makeup, doing a crossword puzzle, eating a Country Risotto with sausage, pancetta, beans, celery, carrots, sage leaves, arborio rice, beef stock, vegetables, legumes, grated parmesan and black pepper, smoking a cigarette, solving a rubix cube, reading Dante's The Divine Comedy, playing a tuba, knitting, putting on chap stick, and changing the CD.
Not cool.

Bree seems also to see irony in the rain:

The rain. What a most glorious and much needed downpour! It's almost sickening.

The Bitter Villager, or Miss Cranky also sense the paradox of the deluge:

The earthworms were scattered thick over the sidewalk when I got off the bus today. I think they were brought out by the rain of the past two days. Unfortunately, their rudimentary brains don't seem to communicate the need to move when large stampy object are headed their direction, so it falls to us to actually watch out for the worms.

The sarcasm of Rob is clear:

It rained all day in Happy Valley. When the clouds cleared, it evidenced that what rained in Happy Valley, snowed in Happy Mountains.

So I guess if you write about rain or snow or any weather you best be prepared to be ironic.

"Words words words"

There probably is nothing more tedious to read about than the weather, but sometimes the weather is so exceptional that you have to make note of it. Those of you who live in more verdant areas of the word won't appreciate it, but I don't think I've seen it rain here in good old Utah quite so heavily for quite so much time in years. The rain is not a bad rain--just a never-ending drizzle which fills up the gutters and skates yellow and red leaves that have recently fallen from their trees down the hills. Do you remember on Sesame Street or some kids show like that how they had some kids singing the "rain rain go away" song? As a kid I never quite understood why they would want rain to go away. It so rarely happened here and generally ends so quickly that most of the time you just want to be out in it or want to sit in some quiet warm place and watch playing on land. Generally, it is pleasant to be out in such rain, as long as you don't mind getting your feet wet, and equally pleasant how wet it smells. We're not afforded such rain in Utah that much.

It is good Hamlet reading weather. I recommend it.

More brevity for your caterwauling soul

What the hell does it mean when someone wishes you a good weekend on a Tuesday?

"Thanks and have a good weekend!"

Silence.
