I'll be in San Francisco for the next few days for a conference. I'll most likely be posting any pictures I take over there, if my over-wraught hotel really does have wireless access. We'll see how it goes. I was going to be supporting the Hilton family by staying at the downtown SF Hilton, but there is a labor dispute and I ain't about to cross a picket line, so my colleague whom I am presenting with picked the hotel. I need to support local businesses anyway, no matter how neon, so it all works out. It looks like it is right close to SF's Tenderloin distritct, so that should be an adventure and a half. I'm bringing my most down-and-out-looking clothes so I can venture over there and see what its all about. Don't worry, I'm not about to set foot in the Tenderloin at night.

I am hoping, however, to make it somewhere near Haight-Ashbury to pay homage to Janis J. (I've already visited Texas this year, so maybe it can be a sort of Joplin Tour 2005). but more than likely I will spend any spare time I have up at the Point Reyes National Seashore. It is a hell-of-a-lot more interesting than some hippy/yippy/ultimately-yuppy memorabilia, and I'm the nature kind of hippy rather than that kind of hippy.

Didn't Janis live with the Dead for a while? Oh hell I should just go over there for "Box of Rain"'s sake then (cue John.)

By the way, Cordelia, did Joplin hang around much in Austin or was her hell-bent effort to get out of Texas before any Austin scene developed? Oh wait, I just read the biography on the site I just gave. Apparently she found a scene there, eh? So what's up with the Austin/SF connection? Did Joplin hang out at any of the places we (Cordelia and I again, sorry other readers) visited? I don't know why I am assuming Cordelia is some Joplin expert, but what the hell.

I haven't been to SF in a long time. I think I will make the best of it this time.
