Print Reviews of Jamming:
"Every once in a while, a book comes out that just makes too much sense; its existence seems so natural and necessary, you wonder how things could have been before it existed. That's what this book is like. It's one of the few new books that made it onto my reference shelf next to the dictionary and style guides."
- Review Addict, Design Science Labs.
"Branwyn lays forth a brilliantly organized survey of fringe media...[His] exhaustive research is riddled with examples, anecdotes, charts, and graphs on just about every form of communication...So if you can't get off your ass after perusing this volume, then don't complain that everything sucks."
- Res Winter '98.
"Branwyn gamely resolved to compile--in print, mind you--nothing less than a permanent, accurate, and reliable resource for all producers of alternative mediaä. You find yourself wanting terribly for him to succeed and--given
the constraints--so he does." - Wired
Reader Reviews of Jamming:
[From an Amazon reader:]
I consider Jamming the Media a powerful handbook that should be read by anyone both in and out the
communications business. Branwyn's theory about how today's technology is reshaping traditional media culture is
completely right. People can now open their minds in order to change their role from passive receivers to active
communicators. At least it was able to open mine. My next step is to install an old computer in my room in order to
have a server where I can have my own Web pages and distribute my neighbor's band over the Internet.
Moreover, it encourages me to continue producing short documentaries and enriching my experience in the
audio-visual field. Furthermore, I particularly enjoyed the author's writing style, with a clear use of language, a
particularly bizarre vocabulary, and a really attractive design.

The book was nothing like I expected. I expected a traditional treatment of using the media. Instead, this book has
helped open whole new avenues of media expression. The book is not a how to manual; it is a how to think manual.
Excellent work and a nice surprise.

This book is an excellent reference resource in this emerging topic and strategy...I have been teaching media literacy at various colleges and universities for nine years, so I know how crucial this information is...I will recommend the book in all my dealings on the subject of media activism.
Thank you for spreading the word!

I bought your book last night in Glendale at Borders. Came home, sat
down to read it, and didn't stop 'til moments ago. I read it in one sitting.
I've blown my back out and my right eye has gone blind. My wife thinks I'm
on crack. I think your book has opened a whole new way of being for
me. Jamming the Media is for me as powerful as any "doors of perception
opening" chemical. You've kicked my creative ass in gear!
thanks for being

i thought i'd just drop you a note to say how much i really enjoyed
reading your book ("my new bible" about covers it). i picked it up at
the SFMOMA a few weeks ago and read it right away, and have since told
everyone i know to read it whenever anything (or not so very) related
comes up. I especially liked the zine section, and the art hack, etc.

I've been reading your book, and I have to say that it is one of the
best twenty dollars that I have spent in my life. Thanks.

I wanted to thank you for writing "Jamming the Media." I've found it to
be extremely helpful and inspirational since I've been trying for the
past couple of months to publish a zine. I was also really inspired by
the wealth of advice you offered for other forms of DIY media....Thanks again for the wonderful book and your help.

Got Jamming the Media and started reading it at work today (slow day covering someone else's shift). Man, I gotta tell you. I haven't been this inspired by a book in years. I'm not kidding, I'm totally psyched. I'm up to the glossary now and my mind is spinning....so far, I've learned a ton. This is exactly the kind of information I've been curious about, jonesing for, and I'll bet I'm not alone. Being a devoted independent home-recording artist and web programmer, I guess I'm a media hacker (a fun thing to discover), yet there is so much I don't know. Now I'm finding it out. Thanks!

I just picked up Jamming The Media today and I'm loving it. We carry it at
our all-volunteer anarchist bookstore here in Philly. I'm pretty new to this computer thing (reluctant Luddite, dragged kicking and screaming, etc.) But now that I'm doing it I'm glad to have your book as one
of my guides.
Keep up the good work!
