About Stasiuk Enterprises
"... the planetarium creates a feeling, a mood, an inspiration that makes it more akin to a temple than any theater or classroom." --David A. Rodger
As I was putting this greeting and the price list together it 'dawned' on me that there are probably many Planetarians out there that have never heard of Garry Stasiuk, or Stasiuk Enterprises. So please allow me to introduce myself and tell you what Stasiuk Enterprises is all about.
I began my planetarium career in Winnipeg, 1966, (I still think I'm eighteen years old!) as a lecturer at the University of Manitoba Planetarium.During the course of my career I attended George Pitluga's ---Institute for Planetarium Directors at SUNY, Oswego, New York;
was Education Director at The Queen Elizabeth II Planetarium in Edmonton, Alberta;
Directed the Kendall Planetarium at OMSI in Portland, Oregon;
and then worked part-time at the Mt. Hood CC planetarium.
And, after all that I began producing and marketing planetarium shows dba Stasiuk Enterprises, because I wanted to remain connected to the Planetarium community and mostly because I felt there was a need for inexpensive, high quality productions for all planetaria, large or small.
To date, we have sold over 125 major productions and many more slides sets and mini-shows to planetaria large and small all over the world!
If you would like more information about our productions contact Jack Horkheimer in Miami, FL at 305 - 854 - 4242 or Gary Bogner at 561 - 547 - 3536
Planetarium Production Philosophy
Our productions are designed around the one element common to any planetarium theatre, the star projector! And we have many years of experience with Spitz and Goto Planetarium projectors and we have seen many productions in theatres large and small that utilize the Zeiss, Minolta and Digistar Star projectors. So it doesn't matter if your planetarium is small or large...or if you have only one slide projector...or a whole battery of special effects...our productions work!
The Sound Tracks
Are narrated by Pacific Northwest professional actors and radio announcers. Voice training schools use the Pacific Northwest accent as the ideal speaking model by the way..(I have at least one line in all productions, hmm, Shades of Alfred Hitchcock, eh!)
Music was purchased from Paul Nelson a local Portland musician, and The famous Tim Clark of the Rochester and Toronto Planetariums.
The Visuals:
High quality duplication. All astronomical slides are from recent space probes and large aperture instruments. Art work by Carol Carlson, former artist at the H.C. Kendall Planetarium. The computer graphics by Garry Stasiuk, yes, me! I am in the process of digitizing and updating all the visuals... As this happens thumb nails will be available here for your review... All the visuals on these web pages are from the shows by the way.
You can order the slides in plastic mounts and do all the work yourself, or order the slides in glass mounts with masks added... and pay me to do the extra work.
The school shows
are based on the learning theories of Jerome Brunner and Jean Piaget, but most important of all, experience! To learn more about learning theories and planetarium applications check out our white paper, "Learning Behaviour in the Planetarium!"
Computer technology
has changed the way we produce slides, and many Planetaria are incorporating video projectors into their theatres. As a result we are preparing all of our slides and animated sequences so that they can be projected via video-computer graphic formats. (That's my "other" job by the way... making graphics for video productions and doing post video production editing with my Amiga's and Macs...)
The show scripts
are fully annotated with instructions on how to build various special effects and alternate methods for presenting various sequences. Each script comes with an appendix of ideas and plans showing you how to build or create various visual special effects.
We will work with you
to customize a planetarium production to suit your facility, meet your deadlines, make masked slides, write you a script, and make music.
We can also make interactive, or multimedia computer exhibits... Stasiuk Enterprises is about quality productions, reliable and fast service, we are here to serve you, the Planetarian!
Thanks
Garry T. Stasiuk
