Introduction to the Planetarium is specifically designed for pre-school through third grade students. According to Piaget, Children at this age are at a level of learning known as "Operational Intelligence."
This is when the student acquires stable concepts, such as space, time, relations, classes and combinations. The students perception plays an important role in understanding their environment. However, the students, believe what they see, do not consider true logic, cannot grasp general principle and cannot see contradictions in statements that do not make logical sense. But, the students do think in terms of symbols that are imitative, imaginistic and playful. Often the students use metaphorical as-if models to make sense of events in their surrounding environment.
This production puts theory and experience into action. As a result, the students meet the narrator, (the Planetarium Pointer), who then takes them on a tour of the night sky; introduces them to the constellations; and the story of The Legend of Andromeda and the Whale.
The "Narrator/Pointer" then allows the children do something they can't do at home... stay up all night! As a result they discover the reason for day and night, go on a shuttle voyage to Venus and Mars and meet Mr. Uck (The atmospheres of Venus and Mars are poisonous, oh Uck!). For a finale they experience a meteor shower and a sunrise.
Special Effects Needed

A slide dissolve unit would be nice,
but is not necessary.
