flag OP ED REVIEW flag

The OP ED REVIEW is a compilation of the week’s news and opinions of interest to conservatives, available by weekly e-mail only.  I follow a variety of news sources and op-ed columns and collect what I think are the important events and articles each week, editing them for reading efficiency.  I also try to find links to useful and informative websites.  The goal is to help the reader be a more effective activist for the conservative cause.  View a recent OP ED here.

This website is not a substitute for the weekly email. It was created as a place to post the political cartoon of the week, and also lists some of the noteworthy links from back issues.

A subscription is free.  If you would like to receive the OP ED REVIEW as an e-mail each weekend, click here to drop me a note:   mailto:garyfoss3@comcast.net

It represents a permanent campaign advocating individual, family and community rights and responsibilities in acts of self-governance, as set forth by our Founders in the Declaration of Independence and codified in its subordinate guidance, our Republic's Constitution, the original intent of which is specified in the Federalist Papers.

The Heritage Foundation’s  2005 Index of Dependency.   The report's findings are alarming.  Since 1980 the level of dependence upon the government in the United States has doubled.  More alarming is the fact that just since 2001 the level of government dependency has grown by 24 percent.  Also troubling is the manner in which this dependency is funded.  There is a growing class of citizens who pay no federal income tax, and a shrinking class bearing the burden.

The Collegiate Network has released its Eighth Annual Campus Outrage Awards. First place goes to LeMoyne College who expelled graduate student Scott McConnell after he wrote a paper in which he rejected multiculturalism and advocated light spanking in elementary school classrooms. He stated that he bases his teaching philosophy “upon the pre-1960’s learning when discipline was present in the learning environment.”. Though McConnell received an A- on the paper, he received a letter from the director of his program explaining: "I have grave concerns regarding the mismatch between your personal beliefs regarding teaching and learning and the LeMoyne College program goals ... You will not be allowed to register for any additional courses."

Rasmussen Reports is launching the Hillary Meter--a twice monthly measure of Senator Hillary Clinton's effort to move to the political center. The first edition of the Hillary Meter finds that Senator Clinton has been somewhat successful in moderating her image over the past couple of months. Currently, 43% of Americans view the former First Lady as politically liberal. That's down from 51% at the end of January.  Frightening…..

“Tech High is a math and science charter school that will operate under the wing of the Atlanta Public Schools System. It is not an elite school for the gifted; that would defeat one of the foundation's aims, which is to demonstrate that with great teachers and high expectations, all children can learn. Tech High seeks to demonstrate that you can transform underperforming inner-city kids into leaders in science and technology. It seeks to prove that with good teachers and high expectations, kids can and will learn. And it seeks to establish a model for urban academic achievement.
