The Galapagos with the Pitzers

July 1997

Return to Index Page

During July of 1997, Paul and Grace Pitzer had the adventure of a lifetime, in many respects. We spent nine days in the Galapagos Islands off the coast of Ecuador. We lived on board the yacht "The Letty" and sailed from island to island enjoying the unique flora and fauna of each island. There were many hikes and chances to snorkel to see these sites.

This site is to share our many pictures and adventures. The pictures were taken by both Grace and Paul. Grace is the photographer with the big camera and zoom lenses for the closeup shots. Paul majored on pictures that include people in the settings. All photographs are copyrighted, but may be used by educators and their students for educational purposes. If you find the pictures useful, please drop me an e-mail message to share how you are using them. Below is just a sample of the pictures to come.

MY Letty
Letty Cabin

"The Letty" is a motor yacht which has ten cabins for twenty passengers and a crew of ten plus two naturalist guides. Go to top.

"The Letty" was only three years old at the time, was done in beautiful woods and had full baths and air conditioned.

Land Iguana

Marine Iguanas

Land Iguanas existed of several types on various islands. Go to top.

Marine Iguanas also were of different species on different islands.

Paul Snorkeling
Sea Lion

Snorkeling was one of the favorite things we liked to do every day. Go to top.

There were many interesting things to see, but the most exciting was swimming with many sealions.

Albaross Pair
Albatross Egg

The albatross mate for life and breed on the islands. They fly all the way to Chile to feed, however. Go to top.

The albatross egg is rather large. If it has been abandoned, you don't want to touch it.

Dining
Sundeck

Dining aboard "The Letty" was fantastic; plenty of good food. Go to top.

The weather was warm and lovely up on the sun deck.
