The Incredible Hulk vinyl model kit, produced by Horizon, is a great
beginner’s kit if you’re thinking of getting into the hobby.
It has a minimal amount of parts and touches on all the basic skills you will need to develop.
I was pleasantly surprised by the actual size of this kit, it’s HUGE for 1/6 scale.
Standing almost 13” tall and over 10” wide, it’s very impressive and gives you quite the canvas in which to work on.

I started by cleaning and trimming all the parts. I filled his feet and legs, up to his waist, with plaster of paris and lead shot. This gave him some awesome weight which really adds to the feel and balance of the kit. His upper body was firmly stuffed with shredded plastic bags. Don’t be surprised if it takes 60-80 grocery sized bags to fill him. Once assembled, I had a few pin holes and bubbles to fill. The arm seams are probably the worst part of the whole job, but can be filled in real nicely with Aves Apoxie Sculpt.

Once the sanding was finished and the primer was dry, I based coated him in black and kind of dry brushed him with Delta Jubilee Green just to get a feel for what I wanted to do…..this was definitely not it.

I truly have no idea how to paint, I just kind of wing it and experiment with different ideas until I stumble across something that I feel is actually working. One of those ideas was: What if I painted him with a Caucasian skin tone and then tried a mist of some transparent Green over him?

Fred Flintstone feet.
This didn’t work very well, he ended up looking camouflaged.

After a few more failed attempts, I decided to try a base coat in Americana Citron Green with some heavy shading in Black and then blend it together with a semi-transparent Delta Jubilee Green.

This seemed to work rather well.

After sealing my work up to this point with Dull Cote, The hair was done with Delta Black Green and the pants were done with shades of Delta Mulberry while adding some black and white.
