        This pictorial postmark shows a picture of Dr King. Across this image and the background is the phrase "sharing the dream" repeated in several lines of tiny type in reverse image. Many letter in the several letter of tiny type are filled with ink. This also reads, "Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration."  For the temporary station set up at the University of Texas at Arlington.
        The postmarks on Jan 13 and 14 are for a city wide celebration. To get this postmark on January 13th, the USPS set up a booth at the University of Texas at Arlington, and on the 14th the booth was set up at Tarrant County Junior College. Except for the dates and zip codes, the designs are exactly the same.

        This pictorial postmark shows a man ice-fishing, an ice shanty, a snowmobile and a tiny ice-fishing apparatus. It reads,"Family Fun 2006, Tip-Up Town USA 2006."
"Tip-Up" refers to a type of fishing apparatus. This event started as a sort of ice-fishing festival but snowmobiling and other activities were added.

        This pictorial postmark has a civil rights march in silhouette format showing many tiny figures. This is for an exhibition of African Americans on stamps. This image does not represent a specific event and serves as the museum’s logo. This exhibition ran from January 14 to March 30. The unveiling of the Hattie McDaniel stamp was on this day.

        This pictorial postmark shows two lovebirds and a heart-shaped vine.   For the period February 1-14 a device was used that had a changeable date. Another device was used that had a fixed date of February 14 and that was used for most requests for the February date. The variety we offer is the scarcer changeable date variety with the February 14th date.

        This machine postmark reads, "For 60 Years We Spread Your Love/Mailing Valentines Around The Globe."
This is available with a non-denominated Love stamp and a cachet on an addressed envelope with bars at the bottom showing that it went through the mail. The stamp was affixed about two inches to the left of the right edge so the message falls mostly on the envelope and not on the stamp. However, because of this placement there is some overlap between the cachet and the postmark. It has a February 14th date.

        This pictorial postmark shows two men on horseback and the hashknife logo within a map of Arizona. It reads, "48th Annual Ride 2006." The date, zip code or the word "station" do not appear. The hashknife was a chopping knife used to make hash on the trail. This is a pony express ride reenactment.

        This pictorial postmark shows Mr Atchison’s picture and signature. It reads, "The David Rice Atchison/World’s Smallest Presidential Library."
        President James Polk was scheduled to step down at noon on Sunday, March 4, 1849 but President-elect Zachary Taylor was a religious man and refused to be sworn in on a Sunday.   Since the Vice-President's term expired along with Polk's the presidency then fell to the President Pro Tem of the Senate - David Rice Atchison - who had just been elected for an additional term to this office.

This pictorial postmark is as follows.
        The official tree of Los Angeles is pictured in the upper left corner. The picture at the top center is the Getty Center comprising a museum, an auditorium, several institutes and other facilities. The scene at upper right is a gas station (writers used to work in the tower shown). The lower left image is the Arthur School for girls. It used to be The Eastern Star Home for Masonic women. The lower right image is the Victorian Chapel. This design was produced by a famous local artist - an Irish priest named Father Donal Keohane.
This is available on a postcard. In the upper right corner is a circular date stamp. It seems to have been placed there as part of the servicing of this postmark

There are TWO postmarks used here. One reads Wiscopex Exhibit Station and the other Rockford Stamp Club Station. They are identical in every respect other than the station name. The two stamp clubs that joined to put on this show each wanted its own postmark.

        There were TWO postmarks used here on this date with the same station name.
A. One, in black ink, shows a wedding couple with a wedding cake and flowers.
B. The other, in purple ink, shows a wedding couple with birds and a heart. When this was used it appears fuzzy except the part that goes on the stamp. When it is on part of a stamp it comes out clearly.
Both of these postmarks are available on the same envelope, with a cachet. The black one is applied to the 39 cent purple wedding stamp affixed to the upper right corner and the purple one is applied to the 63 cent green wedding affixed to the lower right corner.

PASSING THE PINK

 

A four foot ribbon made its way across the country. Starting in Margate NJ and at various stops along the the way it was displayed at the local post offices with the aim of prompting a cancer awareness day at that place. It ended up in Sacramento - the home of the doctor that came up with the idea for the Breast Cancer semi-postal stamp. An attempt was made to get the signatures of people helpful in the fight against breast cancer.

A pictorial postmark noting this was used in five places in New Jersey. It read, "Passing the Pink Station," and showed a loop of ribbon. Here are the places:

        This pictorial postmark shows a stylized bar of music. Mr Shaffer was born and raised here. He was band director at the local high school and moved Porterville CA and was band director director there also. He went on to become the director of the Fabulous Studio Band that performed in such prominent venues as Carnegie Hall in NYC. The Bice-Ferguson Memorial Museum Benefit is on this day and it features Mr Shaffer.
