        This pictorial postmark shows a picture of Dr. King and it reads, "Second Annual MLK Jr. African American Heritage Rodeo of Champions, Denver Coliseum, Monday * 6:30 PM. Although this is the second time for this event, it is the first time there is a postmark for it. The cancellation device seems to have been difficult to apply as all copies have some white streaks.  The device was received AFTER the event and I was told that only three people got this postmark in Denver.  The city, the state abbreviation, the zip code and the word, "station," do not appear.

        This generic postmark was available for use for any special event in February, It is not used on other dates. This year was used on: February 1 at the MLK Library for the start of Black History Month; on February 18 for Lunar New Year (for which another postmark was also be available). It was also used on February 24.  North Star Railway Productions held a Black History event at Union Station Train Station on this date. This organization tries to develop knowledge of and interest in Black Heritage and current Black Culture in young Black Americans, At this event there were relevant shows and exhibits.

        This pictorial postmark reads, "150th Anniversary."   There is no pictorial element.  A slave sued to get his freedom on the basis that since he had one resided in a state where slavery was abolished he was free. This was more complicated than this one sentence indicates with each justice writing his own opinion. This decision was handed down on March 6, 1857 and it helped to inflame the passions that led to the Civil War.

The FR was a 1657 Colonial American petition to Peter Stuyvesant, the governor of the Dutch Colony of New Netherland, in which several citizens requested an exemption to his ban on Quaker worship. He is modeled after Burl Ives, the actor and folk singer who was raised in this area. This is for a county-wide festival and all seven post offices participated. Mr Ives was the narrator for the movie Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in which he also sang some songs. Sam the Snowman is a character in the movie.
