"The Lights of Brigantine"

Storyteller

Words expressive of life’s lesson
Guitar chords reveal reflections
Of moments passed by times resolve.
And the storyteller dances
Within verses; subtle moments.
Presenting images unknown
Yet understood by quiet souls
Inside their own contemplations.
Common bonds, unrelated thoughts,
Come together with shared embrace
As connective humanity.

I'd just finished a set at The Indigo Coffeehouse in Aberdeen, NJ when Scott Wolman passed me a handwritten        note containing the lines above. Never the best at accepting a compliment I mumbled an embarrassed thank-you,        stuck it in my pocket and kind of wandered off.  I have my doubts about how accurately it describes me but it's          sure something to work toward. Some people seem to make strong connections to my songs and I try to respect        that when I'm doing them. Without, I hope, taking myself too seriously in the process.

The "Lights of Brigantine" project started out as a way to keep track of some songs and maybe learn a little about      the art of recording along the way. It evolved into a collection that, I think, has an unaffected, organic feel to it. I          added a bit of harmonica and high-strung second guitar on some tunes but it’s still a pretty accurate reflection of          what I sound like playing live.

Thanks to David and Ileana at The Indigo Coffeehouse in Aberdeen, NJ for their encouragement and support,            and to the entire Indigo gang. To Patti Bramson for her kindness and generosity, Rod Picott and Abbie
Gardner for listening, Bobby Wagner for "The Push", Norm Draper for his friendship, and to all the men and              women of RMMGA, past and present. Special thanks to Rosel Wirth and Ursula Catalano.

     This is for Brenda.
