Bio

I've arrived at that time when making a lot of money isn't necessary -- Retirement. Leaving Silicon Valley behind we've moved to Fresno CA.  I've been a photo journalist, soldier, software engineer and corporate executive. I'm known as a natural leader, expert communicator and writer that loves challenge and change. Still a geek at heart, a computer and the Internet are always close at hand. For me retirement is a career change. At last, I can freely experiment with life and get to know me better. Just waiting for the pine box isn't a viable option. Through the years I've written many magazine and news pieces. Without speaking as to my talent in that area, I truely like communicating and writing.

Once in Fresno, I joined Americorps -- Homeland Security meets the Peace Corps. As an Emergency Management Coordinator at the Fresno Fire Department, I rewrote the city's Emergency Operations Plan and it was approved by the city council. Next I wrote the Business Plan for, and implementation of a 211 Call Center at United Way. After opening the 211 Center a year before thought posible I've gone back to writing and research on Linux and other Open Source software on the desktop. Varied consulting assignments are also part of my life.

The Essence of me

From a personality perspective I'm pure Aquarian and passionate about getting things done. I've been called a "Renaissance Man" and must admit I like the label. My creative endeavors frequently solve real life problems. I'm a pragmatic dreamer and visionary. Humanizing technology has always been a personal goal. Being a people person, I'm always happiest when I'm communicating with and mentoring others. These traits have a lot of impact on my interests. My personal rules are to listen objectively, communicate positively and to carry a big stick for those few times that the first two fail me.

I'm an engineer and designer that makes his living from the technology that drives the usefulness of the internet. That being said, my greatest technology passion is personal automation of the portable kind. My current weapons of choice are a Palm Tungsten E2, wireless keyboard, cell phone and WiFi for wireless data access. Comcast provides my broadband window into Cyberspace and of late my desktop became Linux. I thrive on change and started my career as a photo journalist in New York. As a war time veteran, in the USAF, I have strong feelings about patriotism and this great country I had the honor to serve.

Personal Interests

I enjoy writing opinion pieces, mostly on technology but recently more about human topics. My most creative writing is done when the mood strikes me -- coffee house or even on the beach. That's why I have the keyboard for my PDA. I may use a stylus with Graffiti for editing and navigating but its just not up to real writing. Most of my published works are in trade journals and newspapers. I've been working on two books, one about how I use Palm computers to be part of the unwired mobile generation. The other to be titled "Aftermath of Experience." I have forsaken the "evil empire" and went cold turkey to a Linux desktop. My lifelong love of photography has gone from B&W through Kodachrome to digital. The results of my minds eye are now combined with writing and have found their way from the front page and galleries to the web.
