A reminder from history of recent events. These stamps are part of a British occupation (in 1918) set issued in 1919 for the Mosul region (north of Baghdad). Iraq was then a part of the Turkish Empire which was an axis entity during WWI. A number of overprint varieties make this set of particular interest. The US and coalition forces in Iraq are currently taking casualties in Mosul.
