The Ron Banner Memorial Award ("The Award") is a perpetual award to be presented annually at the East Coast 12-Meter National Championship Regatta. The Award has been presented to the East Coast Twelve Meter Class Owner's Association by the Gig Harbor Model Yacht Club, #117 of the American Model Yachting Association. In the event that the East Coast Twelve Meter Class Owner's Association disbands or ceases to function, in the opinion of the Executive Committee of the Gig Harbor Model Yacht Club, the Gig Harbor Model Yacht Club shall regain possession of The Award.
Presentation of The Award
The regatta committee of the host club of each year's East Coast 12-Meter National Championship Regatta shall select, and present The Award at the end of the regatta annually. Recipient of The Award will retain possession and be responsible for maintenance until the next recipient is named.
Selection of the winner of The Award
The Award is intended to be awarded to the skipper who most closely demonstrates Ron Banner's spirit. The Award will be given to a participant of the National Championship Regatta who most closely exemplifies the following characteristics:
| Friendliness, takes time to greet everyone |
| Encourages Nationals participation |
| Sportsmanship, helps repair competitor's yachts |
| Organizes a group to attend Nationals |
