St. Pete Scorer for Opti's
I was holding my breath as to what was going to come about with the WX after the gorgeous WX that we had two days prior to the regatta. Predictions were that there would be rain, but that it would be in the afternoon.
April 13, 2008, Sunday morning, about 7:30am, I headed for Johnny’s at Fife for skippers breakfast. I did not pick up Howard Rasmussen because he was not feeling well. Skippers there were Chappy Chapman, Tacoma and Roland Krona, Gig Harbor. We got to the lake at about 9:15AM . As we were getting our gear together, to take to the dock, Joe D’Amico and Jack Ronda, Sequim, WA showed up. It was great having them. It was not to much later after this that Bob Corbett, Edgewood, WA arrived.
Joe D and Jack R put out the marks. Thanx, guys. They set up a right angle start/finish line to take care of any major wind shifts. The winds were from the S, SW and W 3-5mph with gusts to 6mph. In the early AM we had a heavy marine effect, but later in the AM it burned off to sunny WX with temps in mid 40s and by noon about 59F. We did not get any rain. The starting gun went off at 10:35Am and we finished at 12:35PM.
We were fortunate in that Murphy did not make an appearance. We did not have any break downs or battery problems. We sailed mainly to the S and SW and occasionally to the W. We sailed a number of windward/leeward heats to get enough heats in and then around the Americas Cup course using all of the marks.
We sailed 10 heats. Jack R brought in the marks and put the gear away. Thanx, Jack. Roland K did very well . He finished only 3 points behind Chappy Chapman. Racing was close between 3rd, 4th and 5th with only a 7 point spread between the three places. It was a great day for sailing. The skippers retired for lunch at A’s and figured out the scores.
1. Joe D’Amico 9 PTS
2. Jack Ronda 17
3. Joe Brohan 32
4. Chappy Chapman 36
5. Roland Krona 39
6. Bob Corbett 48
Joe Brohan
NOTE NOTE NOTE STAR 45 1 Sunday April 20, 2008. Hopefully the weather gods will be smiling upon us and favor us with some decent sailing WX. At this point we have two Stars here in our area and 1 in Sequim. When Snowbird Jerry Muridge comes up from AZ we’ll have 3 Stars here.
