Howard Rasmussen and I arrived at Johnnie’s at Fife at about 8AM on Feb. 22, 2009. Also there was "Chappy" Chapman and Joe D’Amico from Sequim, WA (80 miles North) and also Harry Lange from Enumclaw, WA.

After breakfast we arrived at the lake at about 9:15AM.

Joe D set out the marks. Thanx, Joe. The winds were very light from the North and the S. Winds during the regatta were from 0-5mph and gusts to 7mph. It was, overall , good sailing with the 3 Stars. I had my Star, Chappy had his new one, and Joe D. Chappy was happy as jaybird since Joe D had brought Chappy’s Star that he has been working on for the past 12 months.

It was an old Dumas fiberglass hull with high free board. It was one major over- haul: all the way from replacing bulb and fin, cutting down the freeboard, putting in a 5/1 Power Box, making a light ply plank deck to replacing the sails. At the same time he installed the receiver for the new 2.4gig transmitter. The boat sails great and Chappy had a ball.

Sailing at first was of the "drifter" variety. Good thing we were sailing Stars. They moved, though reluctantly. Harry Lange had his ODOM and amazingly enough it got around even in those very light airs. ODOMs in light air can be a real challenge.

We sailed until 1PM . About 12 noon the breezes picked up and sailing was good. It was interesting to see how the ODOM was performing compared to the Stars. When the gust came up the ODOM accelerated dramatically. However, at the same time, the Stars took time to start moving being a heavier boat. It was an interesting comparison.

We did not have any breakdowns and sailing was free from any problems. We had some very close finishes during the light air time. They were photo finish type. Since there were very light airs at the beginning, we sailed only 10 heats. At the start of the regatta we were sailing windward/leeward. However, the last hour, as the breezes improved, we sailed completely around the course which included 4 marks exclusive of the starting line.

After all of the gear was put away, thanx, Joe, we went to lunch. The group broke up about 3PM.
