ODOM II APRIL 30, 2006

Howard Rasmussen and I, Joe Brohan, both from University Place, WA., arrived at Noel's for skippers' breakfast at about 8AM. All of the skippers for the reagatta were there including "Chappy" Leon Chapman, Port Orchard, WA and Harry Lange, Enumclaw, WA.,

We wre greeted at Surprise Lake by N, NW and W winds 2-5mph with temps in the mid 50sF with broken sky cover. Harry L placed the marks and set up the usual right angle N/S E/W start finish lines. Good thing too, because we utilized all directions with windward/leeward and triangular courses. Thanx, Harry, for the well placed marks. That alone is a challenge with the winds that we get at Surprise Lake which, by the way, IS NOT a misnomer. The breezes can be a surprise!

The regatta was uneventful, thankfully, re Murphy's Law. However, inattention did it's thing between heats. While Howard R had his boat out-of-the-water to make a sail adjustment and I am distracted by that, my boat sails right into the dock. Get with it, Joe! Harry L helped to retrieve the boat that became dismasted and Harry lifted it out of the water for me. I made some "jury rig" repairs to the halyard and forestay and continued to race in the following heats.

This happening, running into the dock, I hate to report, is know as the "docksterone" hormone, that, at times, runs rampant at our club's dockside. This is one of many hormones that we have managed to isolate at our club's sailing events. Sometime, in the near future, I'll have to list them for you, their symptoms, sometimes catastrophic  results and some preventive measures. Many of the discovered hormones have been named after the skipper in which the hormone was first observed/discovered. A SLIGHT presence of some of these hormones can lead to disastrous results.

Thanx Harry L for rounding up the marks and putting the gear away. We then headed for the Tav for a bite to eat and figure the placing. At about 2PM we all headed for home.

The regatta points were very close on the 2nd and 3rd heats with only 1 point spreads. By 12:30PM we sailed 12 heats.

  1. Harry Lange                  11 Pts.
  2. Howard Rasmussen     23
  3. Joe Brohan                     24
  4. Chappy Chapman         35
