COMMODORE'S CUP September 22, 2002

We were greeted today with a bright blue sky with a hint of some cirrus clouds and a light breeze. The temp was 45-48 degrees. Some of the skippers met at Mr. A's for breakfast before the regatta around 8:00 a.m.. At 9:00 a.m. we arrived at the lake. While we were enjoying ourselves at Mr. A's Jesse Touhey had been busy getting out the gear and putting out the marks, Thanx Jesse.

The condition of the dock is beginning to show sign of overuse by those ex-patriot resident Canadian geese which I wish would fly home. If the accumulation of the goose doo continues to build up we're going to have a very slippery dock to walk on when the rains start. Hopefully that won't be for a while.

9 skippers attended: Jesse Touhey, Pt. Angeles, Bud Pell, Poulsbo, Harry Lange Enumclaw, Ken Lyons, Olympia, Jerry Murridge, Seattle, Gary Kohler, Bellevue, Joe Brohan, Puyallup, Howard Rasmussen, University Place, and Ken Pawlicki, Tacoma. Unfortunately, when the boats were being set up Ken Pawlicki discovered that the drum winch was malfunctioning. It was nothing that could be taken care of at the time Howard Rasmussen ended up taking it home to repair it. Apparently, the drum was slipping on the winch shaft.

We started racing at 10:15 a.m. with light breezes from the NE and NW at about 2-3 mph. They were not consistent and were liberally interspersed with those 85' deep holes that I have referred to in the past. However, as the morning wore on, and we made one course change, the breeze started to settle down and by 11:30 a.m. we had breezes 3-5 mph with some gusts to 6-7 mph with temp at about a balmy 71 degrees. We ended up completing 13 heats (which gave us two throw outs) and were all done sailing by 1:00 p.m. We rounded up the gear, Harry picked up the marks, boat was locked up, gear put into the box and we retired to the Milton Tav for a bite. While at the Tav the scores were figured out.

1. Jerry Murridge

2. Joe Brohan

3. Jesse Touhey

6. Howard Rasmussen

7. Ken Lyons
