St. Pete Scorer for Opti's
ODOM POINTS NITE AUG. 22, 2006
When I arose on Tuesday morning I was greeted by a heavy marine effect of overcast skies. The temps were mild and with interesting breezes blowing. Usually the marine effect skies usually burn off by mid morning or early afternoon. I,could only hope. I, Joe Brohan, picked up Howard Rasmussen. Both of us are from University Place, WA. At about 4:30PM we loaded up Howard’s gear and we headed for the lake. By this time the skies were lightening up and if we looked hard we could see patches of blue sky.
When we arrived at the lake, Roland Krona, Gig Harbor, WA.., Jerry Muridge, N Tacoma, WA., Chappy Chapman, Tacoma, WA., and Joe D’Amico, Sequim, WA were already there. What a surprise to see Joe D since he has a 120 mile roundtrip to come and sail with us. Then later, as we were setting things up Harry Lange, Enumclaw, WA and and Bob Corbett, Milton, WA arrived.
Joe D and I set up the marks with an E/W N/S right angle start/finish line. Thanx for the help, Joe. At this time the winds were blowing from the N, S & W. All over the Compass Rose at 0-4 with gusts to 6 mph. The temps were in the mid 60sF. For most of the heats we sailed a windward/leeward course and others with a triangular course with sausage depending on the wind direction. At times it was quite fluky with winds blowing on the dock but nothing on the water and then at times they were very erratic when we found ourselves doing auto tacks. Since Chappy C did not bring his boat, he did the honors as RD for the regatta. It’s in dry dock having the deck re-epoxied due to major delamination along the starboard aft of the boat. Chappy says he’ll have it back on the water on our next Tuesday Nite.
The starting gun went off at about 6PM. Since we had fairly decent breezes during the evening we were able to get in 10 heats. We were fortunate that we did not have any breakdowns. We finished our 10 heat at 7:30PM. Jerry M and Harry L rounded up the marks, put the boat to bed, and locked up our gear. Thanx, guys. We did not go to the Tav this evening. It seems that the prices there are getting out-of-hand so we tried Mr. A’s again. Prices were better, so we may very well change our dinning venue. The placing was figured out and we headed home at about 9:30PM.
The placing was close for 1st and 2nd with only a 1 point spread. The rest of the field was really spread out.
