CORLEY WINS FAST GAME

Defeating Reliance 14-0 Before Big Crowd at Vare Park.

The eleven of the Corley Catholic Club defeated the Reliance Field Club team at Vare Park, Broad street and Oregon avenue, yesterday afternoon by the score of 14 to 0 in a game full of spectacular line plunging, forward passes and long runs through broken fields. More than 5,000 persons witnessed the contest. J. Dougherty made the most sensational run of the game, zigzagging through every member of the opposing team for more than 80 yards for a touchdown. Connell, of Reliance, kicked off at the beginning of the second to Dougherty, he had just replaced Thomas at right end. By clever use of the straight arm he managed to shake off three of his opponents who endeavored to bring him to the ground.

After a series of line attacks by the backfield of the Corley team and the ball had been brought to the 10-yard line from mid-field, R. Watson smashed through tackle for the second score. R. Robbins was one of the consistent ground gainers for the victors. Smith played the star game for the Reliance. He emerged from a mass play and ran more than 40 yards, only to be overtaken by Meagher.
