HOLMESBURG WINS FROM DISTRICT PROS

Brilliant line -play and great offensive work by McGuckin and Fritz won for the fast Holmesburg eleven yesterday at American League park in a hard-fought battle with the Washington Football club, 10 to 0. The former Villanova star booted a drop kick from Washington's 36-yard line in the third period for Holmesburg's initial score.

The story of the game may be told easily by summing up the first downs registered. The locals were checked in breaking the Pennsylvanians' line at any time of the fray and made but one first down. On the other hand, McGuckin and Fritz, shouldering the burden of the Holmesburg offense, ripped through the Black and White forwards for four first downs. Henzelman, inserted in the contest for Caskey, also gained considerable ground at line plunging.

Leighty Throws Ball Away.

Play was in midfield for the greater part of the game and it was from here that the victors' touchdown was scored. Halback [sic] Leighty attempted a forward in the quarter, but seeing the opposing forwards bearing down on him tried to ground the ball by throwing it over their heads. However, Potts was on the job and snagged the pigskin, racing with good interference to the Washington goal line. Seigle kicked goal.

Washington's stars failed yesterday for the first time this season. Mackert and Lukens couldn't stand the gaff and were taken out before the half was over. Even Harry Harris and Jack Sullivan, two widely known football celebrities, failed to succeed in tearing at the Holmesburg line Washington was forced to kick upon nearly every third or fourth down. In this department of the game the locals were best. Litkus, Lukens and Walson averaged better distance on their boots than Fritz and Henzelman.
