Frankford Legion Upsets Shamokin, 47 to 0.
Vastly outweighed but fighting grimly right up to the last whistle, Shamokin's all-scholastics took their second whipping of the season at Shamokin on last Sunday from Frankford Legion. The final tally gave Frankford 47, and Shamokin 0.
Kearney, Shamokin end, took the initial kick and made a good return thru the open field. Shamokin was held for downs, however, and Ernst dropped back to kick. Chase broke through and blocked, the ball rolling to the one-yard line. On Legion's first play Atkinson plunged over for a six pointer.
A second six pointer was registered a few minutes later by McManes when he took a lateral on the 14-yard line and romped over. The third tally came for Legion when Kreuz crashed through the Shamokin line. Kreuz successfully booted three placements following the touchdowns. Goodbread broke through in the third period to score a 6-pointer just before the whistle ended the quarter.
Atkinson raced over for a touchdown early in the final period, but for the first time the mighty boot of Kreuz failed to register the extra point. Gillespie took the ball over for his run at scoring and was followed a few minutes later by Panaccion, who intercepted a pass. Kreuz booted one of the extra points but a pass for the other failed.
