Legion Gridders Preparing Field In Upper Frankford
Portion of Old Yellowjackets Field at Frankford Ave. and Devereaux St. Secured For Home Games
Frankford Legion A. A., headed by Wally Secrist, has secured a plot located at Frankford ave. and Devereaux st. and which will be used to sponsor sports of all sorts. It is part of the holdings of the old Frankford Yellowjackets.
Workmen have been busy the past week making ready the space 400 x 400 ft. for football. The first game is listed for Sunday, November 12, provided the Sunday sports bill is passed at the November election next Tuesday, otherwise the home games in the Interstate League will be played on Saturdays.
The field is evened and graded and seats will be erected to accommodate 7000 persons. Soccer, football, boxing, wrestling and other outdoor sports will be fostered with night ball in the summer. A former big leaguer will have charge of the baseball and the soccer.
The first football game on Sunday, November 12, will feature the Passaic Red Devils with Kirkleski. November 19 will see the league leading Reading Keys here with the famous Warren Heller. On November 26, Bayonne Vikings with Abe Margolis will play here. Thanksgiving Day's attraction will be the Paterson Giants with Clifton N. J. Wessingtons on December 3rd, with Dave Myers, Eddie Tryon and Nick Borrelli.
The Interstate League at present is composed of two Pennsylvania elevens and four from Jersey. Next year two more Jersey teams will be added with four more from Pennsylvania. Shenandoah, Lancaster and Hazleton have already signified their intention to join and Frankford will have two teams.
