"DOC" ELLIOTT IS SIGNED BY QUAKER GRID TEAM

Former Lafayette Star Will Play Against Yankees.

Big "Doc" Elliott, of Lafayette fame and more recently a member of the Cleveland Panthers, has joined the Philadelphia Quakers. Announcement of his signing was given out by Leo Conway yesterday during the midst of one of the business afternoons in the history of the new football club.

In addition to signing a new players the Quakers also arranged to play Clifton Heights this Sunday on the home field of the Clifton eleven out in Delaware county. This game will have a real bearing on the fight for the city championship now being woged [sic] between Clifton, the Quakers and the Yellowjackets.

Elliott will report to the local club immediately and will be in shape to play against Red Grange and his New York Yankees, at New York, on Thursday. Then the great plunging back will have an opportunity to show his stuff to a Local audience on Saturday, when the Yankees and Quakers meet in a return game at Shibe Park.

This battle at Shibe Park will undoubtedly decide the American League championship, with the Quakers needing a victory to clinch the crown. Right now Folwell's eleven is in first place by a narrow margin, and must split even with the Yankees in two games to retain the top berth.

The Quakers are in fine shape for the three games on this week's program and Folwell is confident that they will emerge triumphant in each contest. The Quaker coach is planning a continuation of the new offensive that won for the team last Saturday against the California Wildcats.
