HOLMESBURG IS EASY FOR QUAKERS' ELEVEN
Local Professionals Early Put Over Three Touchdowns and Then Play Safe.
ANDERSON IS STAR OF THE GAME
Suburbanites, Unable to Stand Steady Bucking of Line, Are Never Dangerous.
Though Holmesburg played a fine defensive game yesterday afternoon, at the Phillies grounds, it was hardly strong enough to stop the fierce onslaughts of their more experienced opponents, and the Quakers rattled up a 21-to-0 victory. The suburbanites were never in any danger of reaching their rivals' goal line, though they always kept the Quakers guessing.
The local professionals went to work in earnest as soon as the whistle blew, and made the victory secure in the early periods. After that the Quakers contented themselves with blocking the Holmesburg drives and trying out players to be used in future games. Pat Smith and Cofall bore the brunt of the attack in the early periods, though it was Anderson, by an end run, soon after the start of the game, who scored first.
Continuing their attack in the second period, the Quakers drove Holmesburg back, and it was the elusive Anderson who made the touchdown. Holmesburg at the beginning of the period twice recovered blocked kicks, but, unable to stop the steady march of the Quakers, were forced back until Smith went over. The suburban team was unable to withstand the steady plunges with Scott, Smith and Cofall carrying the ball.
Fritz's punting was about the best feature of Holmesburg's playing, and before the half ended it gained considerable ground, but there was no way of stopping the elusive Anderson.
