Vol. 5: Melrose AC / Atlantic City Roses

Throughout the 1920s the Melrose Athletic Club of Atlantic City fielded what was arguably the most popular football team in New Jersey.  Its location in a resort town enabled the "Roses" to attract not only other independent teams from across the state, but also the strong clubs of Pennsylvania’s Anthracite League, and such National Football League teams as the Canton Bulldogs, Frankford Yellow Jackets, Pottsville Maroons and Rochester Jeffersons.  For most of its existence Melrose operated as an independent club, but during the mid-1920s the Roses joined the short lived Eastern League of Professional Football (1926-27).
