Committees
Ethics Committee:
- To meet with administration, or other department, on school-wide designated ethics issue initiatives for the year (this year Guidance is promoting a bullying education initiative and there is a school wide initiative to re-educate the student body on the Glenelg Honor Code)
- To research possibilities for Ethics issues education, this is in conjunction with character education initiatives, like “The Choice is Yours” program use the research help educate members/student body on Ethics issues throughout the year.
Publicity/Information Committee:
- To inform student body about the Glenelg National Honor Society
- To update/create NHS bulletin board
- To update the Glenelg NHS website
- To generate an NHS information pamphlet/PowerPoint to be used at Freshmen orientation
- To gather information on NHS paraphernalia, i.e. t-shirts, etc- for society identity.
- To generate a proposal for the NHS to sponsor an Activities Information Fair during the 2008 Freshmen orientation.
- To organize the fair, i.e. determine booths, positions, participants, etc.
- To designate components of the Activities Fair booths, i.e. pamphlets, informational display boards, team members in uniform… etc…
Food/Inductions Committee:
- To plan and organize the Induction Ceremony and reception and the NHS Banquet
- To generate a check list for each event
- To devise a budget for reception or banquet needs, as well as snack needs throughout the year.
- To plan an appreciation breakfast for faculty, administration and staff during National Education Week.
- To provide advisors with a list/schedule of snacks for the monthly NHS meetings
- To set up/clean up snacks at monthly NHS meetings
- To keep a resource binder including check list, programs, scripts, etc. to be given to the committee next year.
Service Project Committee:
- To develop and organize the GHS Chapter service project.
- To inform the publicity/ information committee about service opportunities

Attendance/Hours Committee:
- To take attendance at all monthly NHS meetings
- To collect and file attendance notes/service hours provided by members
- To keep track and advise the executive board on member’s attendance/service status, i.e. warnings and probations
- To catalogue the member’s service hours/attendance in excel spreadsheet and on the website
- To provide advisors with monthly paper and digital copy of spreadsheet updates
- To organize and outline a collection schedule for any forms
Appreciation/Recognition Committee:
- To provide information to the publicity committee about “recognition” and scholarship opportunities open to members (for inclusion on website).
- To encourage members to apply for recognition and/or scholarship opportunities.
- To generate awards that recognize NHS students who stand out in the community.
- To devise an incentive program for active NHS members
- To organize award presentation for the NHS Banquet
- To brainstorm on ways and/or tokens for NHS to thank the teachers, staff and administration of Glenelg
- To plan, assemble and distribute “appreciation tokens” during National Education Week and for Secretaries day.
Tutor Facilitators Committee:
- To generate a “tutor pamphlet” for Glenelg outlining subject areas, and to distribute this pamphlet to Department ITLs at Glenelg
- To generate a sessions schedule for all Glenelg NHS tutors
- To track tutor hours of all NHS tutors- mandatory 3 hours of service per quarter.
- To generate and distribute reminder notices to NHS students on tutor sessions
- To act as liaisons for NHS to Glenwood Middle, and various Department ITLs at Glenelg, and the Homework Club.
- To meet with the “Freshmen Team Committee” and discuss tutor possibilities for Glenelg Freshmen
