1/31/09 Solving Puzzle using Maps (63kb pdf) is a five page article I wrote for the November 2008 edition of Cubism For Fun #77. It discusses solving two cast metal puzzles by Hanayama: the Cast Duet and Cast Disk.

4/7/2008 A beautiful and simple puzzle is Teaser Balls invented by Anneke Treep and Christian Freeling. For my own information, I created a web page showing how to solve teaser balls. I made a variation of this puzzle which is pictured at the bottom of this web page, the "double tease".

4/12/08 The idea for my G4G8 exchange puzzle was to dissect a chess position into polyominoes. I created a board position that can be assembled from 13 polyominoes in two ways: one in which white is checkmated and one in which black is checkmated. It is quite difficult by itself to assemble polyominoes into a chess board (where black and white squares alternate), this new twist makes the puzzle even more difficult. One can, however, obtain significant hints from the information that one player must be checkmated. If you want to print out and try this puzzle, click here.
