Labor Doula

  • Benefits of a Labor Doula -  Childbirth is an important event that you will remember all your life. How a baby is born affects the bonding process between parents and baby.  Many couples find that having an experienced, trained woman caregiver attend their birth helps them to relax and have a more joyful experience. A doula, or professional birth assistant, provides physical, emotional, and informational support to both mother and father, during pregnancy and childbirth.  The birth assistant provides continuity of care from home to hospital, and stays by the mother's side throughout her labor. She serves as an advocate, offering support, encouragement, and suggestions to both the mother and her partner.  (More benefits...)

Postpartum Doula

  • Benefits of a Postpartum Doula - Many families are realizing that this "peak" life experience can also be a difficult and confusing time, learning to provide for baby’s needs while still taking care of yourself. Many have found that having a postpartum doula birth can mean the difference between a smooth transition of adding the new baby to the family and an exhausting adjustment period filled with uncertainty and tears.  Some choose a postpartum doula to have an experienced set of hands.  Others choose to have postpartum help because extended family is not available and the postpartum woman’s partner needs to return to work.  Others have special circumstances: multiples, breastfeeding issues, recovery from surgery, being at risk for postpartum depression, etc.  A postpartum doula can make sure that the new mother and baby are getting the care they need as they get to know each other.  (More benefits...)
