Kuchmas Family archives

This is the Kuchmas family archive page. A unique name it is. I remember going to a national telephone number search page a few years ago and finding only 13 names, 11 of which I could identify as 'known as relatives". There were a couple of Kuchmas's in Manahawkin, NJ who I emailed a couple of times but got no reply. And how's this for a coincidence, there was a report of a Kuchmas in Kearny, NJ where my wife grew up. Bonnie's sister Beth said she knew the name but frankly I didn't believe her. But it was true, although I have not been able to contact them either. Recently, I have gotten a number of 'hits' searching the web for the name. There is the infamous PRESDIDENT KUCHMA of Ukraine. Not known to be a relative, but likes to steal our Internet thunder by coming up as kuchma's, (get it?). I found some real hits in the United Kingdom, in Ohio (Fitzgerald/Kuchmas), and the "known" Kuchmas' in Baltimore, Arkansas, and Connecticut. More recently I read of a Joann Kuchmas in Cherry Hill, NJ. She stole my thunder too as I read a comment of her's on the Internet referring to being mistaken for Christmas. Where have I heard that before?... My mothers name is Mary Christmas, oops I mean Kuchmas. I had always claimed to my immediate family to be the only Kuchmas in NJ, now there are Kuchmas's in Kearny, Manahawkin and now Cherry Hill. NJ. (Pressure's off GJ, they're popping up everywhere:>)~
More about "my family". I was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut and raised in Dunmore (near Scranton), PA. After getting married, Bonnie (from Kearny/Clifton, NJ) and I moved to Fort Lauderdale, FL for 17 years. Returned to the "great northeast", to Mount Laurel (near Philadelphia) and have been back here about 12 years. Bonnie and I have 3 kids, Cheryl (married, living near the Jersey Shore), Debbie (married, living in the Winslow, NJ area) and GJ (single, living in Pemberton, NJ) and if you looked at the other pages you will know a beautiful 'bunch' of grandchildren we have..
The best I can tell, the surname has its roots in Czechoslovakia, near the border of Austria. I promise to get more detail in the near future but until then I can only tell you what I am sure of. My fathers' father Bill, settled n The Northeast region of Pennsylvania (Olyphant), near Scranton. Most of the " kids" left the area, Mike and John to Connecticut, Bill to Maryland, Mary to California and Alaska and although my father spent time in Connecticut and New York he settled in the Scranton area. My sister, Maryellen and brother Billy and their families stayed in the Scranton area. My mother still lives there also, in Throop, PA within a mile of Maryellen's home. My father passed away in April of 2000 (just a few months ahead of Bonnie's father). And let it be said loud and clear, you don't know much you miss them until they are gone. I hope in some way, these web pages will help us appreciate what we have (had).
