LAWRENCE ROWE SR.

A former Glassport and Clairton resident, Lawrence Wesley Rowe Sr., 87, of Elrama died Saturday in Monongahela Valley Hospital, Carroll Twp. Retired in 1978 as a grinder from the beam yard of the Clairton plant, U.S . Steel Corp., with 39 years of service, he was a member of Community Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Elizabeth Twp. and a past elder, board member and usher there and past president of the Alliance Men.

A member of the Retired Steelworkers of America, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the Battle of the Bulge, Normandy and European Theater of Operations.

Born in Lincoln, March 3, 1914, he was a son of the late Robert and Pearl Blakely Rowe and husband of the late Edith G. Trainer Rowe. He is survived by sons, Lawrence W. Rowe Jr. of Elizabeth and Gerald K. Rowe of Panama City Beach, Fla.; daughter, Edith G. Evans of Elrama; 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Friends are being received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Community Christian Missionary Alliance Church. Service will be conducted there tomorrow at 11 a.m. by the Rev. John Kistler. Interment will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Elizabeth Twp. The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Community Christian Missionary Alliance Church, 234 Simpson-Howell Road, Elizabeth Twp., 15037. Arrangements are in charge of the S.M. Finney Funeral Home, Inc., West Elizabeth.

LOIS WHITFIELD LEWIS

Lois Beatrice Whitfield Lewis, 84, of Glassport, formerly of Jefferson Hills, died yesterday at home. She was a member of the former Glassport Presbyterian Church.

Born March 27, 1917, in Glassport, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Beatrice Caley Jones and the wife of the late Leslie Whitfield. She is survived by her husband, James Lewis; son, Mark Whitfield of Townsend, Mont.; stepdaughter, Lisa Ficarri of the North Hills of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, four step grandchildren, four great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren.

Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the E.C. Finney Funeral Home, Inc., Glassport. Service will be offered there Thursday at 1 I a.m. by the Rev. Lori Turner. Interment will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Elizabeth Twp. The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Family Hospice.

CECELIA BORKOWSKI

Cecelia Frances Borkowski, 80, of Glassport died today in Kane Regional Center, McKeesport. A retired tapper from Westinghouse Electric Corp. in East Pittsburgh, she was a member of Queen of the Rosary Parish in Glassport.

Born in Glassport, Feb. 24, 1921, she was the daughter of the late William and Blanche Pomocki Borkowski. She is survived by brothers, John Borkowski of Glassport, Joseph Borkowski of Redlands, Calif., and Edward Borkowski of Pennsbury; sisters, Gertrude Wojton of McKeesport, Laura Michalovicz of Glassport, Jean Borkowski with whom she resided and Claire Palumbo of Liberty; nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Edmund E. Wojciechowski Jr. Funeral Home, Glassport. Service will begin there Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian at 10 in Queen of the Rosary Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Port Vue.

STANLEY ZIELINSKI

Stanley W. Zielinski, 79, of Glassport died yesterday in Jefferson Hospital. A retired millwright from the Duquesne plant, U.S. Steel Corp., he was a member of Queen of the Rosary Parish in Glassport, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the Philippines and recipient of a Bronze Star.

Born in Glassport, June 29, 1922, he was the son of the late Stanley W. Sr. and Catherine Sydeski Zielinski. He is survived by his wife, Jennie Sypniewski Zielinski; daughter, Ester (Cookie) Stonkey of Liberty; son, Mark S. Zielinski of Ellwood City; five grandchildren; brothers and sister, Leonard Zielinski of Port Vue and Ernie Zielinski and Dolores Kyrie in Massachusetts; nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Edmund E. Wojciechowski Jr. Funeral Home, Glassport. IRENE PIKULA

A former McKeesport resident, Irene G. Pikula, 81, of Hamburg, N.Y., died Sunday in Mercy Hospital, Buffalo, N.Y. She was a former member of St. Martin de Porres Parish in McKeesport and former president of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers and member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

Born October 22, 1919, in Glassport, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Francis Mihalcik Dolnack and the wife of the late John J. Pikula. She is survived by daughters, Paula Calp of Houston, Tex., and Andrea Latta of Hamburg; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandsons.

Friends will be received in the Hunter - Edmundson - Striffler/ Cremation Service & Funeral Home Thursday from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter Church. Interment will follow in New St. Joseph Cemetery, North Versailles Twp.

Elizabeth (Lee) Ploskina Carson, 77, Glassport died yesterday at home. A volunteer for the Meals on Wheel program, she was a member of Queen of the, Rosary Parish in Glassport and its Confraternity of Christian Mothers.

Born in Glassport, March 15, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Marie Montesanto Trunzo and the wife of the late Peter J. Ploskina and John (Jack) Carson. She is survived by children, Nancy McClure in California state, Janice Kass of Pymatuming, Gloria Ploskina of Greenock, Thomas Ploskina of Hilton Head, S.C., and Greg Ploskina of Glassport; 23 grandchildren and .24 great grandchildren; brothers and sister, John and Paul Trunzo and Angeline D'Antonio, all of Glassport; nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Edmund E. Wojciechowski Jr. Funeral Home, Glassport. Marie A. Baran, 78, of Liberty formerly of Glassport, died yesterday in the North Huntingdon Twp. home of her son, Daniel G Baran. She was a member of Liberty Women's Club and St. Mark Parish and its Confraternity of Christian Mothers.

Born in Glassport, Nov. 8, 1922, she was the daughter of the late John Sr. and Rose Dobos Bartko. She is survived by her husband, Michael Baran; sons: Michael F. Baran of Damascus, Md., and Daniel; two grandchildren and a great grandchild; sister, Eleanor Hondal of East McKeesport; brothers, John (Whitey) Jr., Thomas, Daniel and Paul (Pete) Bartko of Glassport; nieces and nephews.

Elmer H. Bates, 64, of Elizabeth died Sunday in UPMC McKeesport. He was the owner and operator of a trucking firm, member of the Church of Jesus Christ, Glassport, and AFL-CIO.

Born July 28, 1937, in Greenock, he was a son of the late Thomas M. and Anna Street Bates. He is survived by a brother, George Bates of Glassport; fiancee, Jacqueline Minjock; nieces and nephews.

Andrew N. Deliman, 82, of Glassport died Monday in N.H.C. Healthcare in McMinnville, Tenn. A retired deputy from the Allegheny County, Coroner's Office, he was a member of the Queen of the Rosary Parish in Glassport and a U.S. Army veteran of World War 11 serving in Europe.

Born in Glassport, Dec, 8, 1918, he was the son of the late Michael and Elizabeth Bartko Deliman and the husband of the late Pauline Roberts Deliman. Harry Costa, 86, of Glassport died Friday in Jefferson Hospital. Retired in 1979 as a self-employed home builder in the Mon Valley with 40 years of service, he was a member of Queen of the Rosary Parish in Glassport and the Italian Club, Clairton.

Born July 18, 1915, in Petersburg, Va., he was the son of the late Gabriel and Grazeosa Scola Costa. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Spencer Costa; sons, Harry Costa Jr. of Forward Twp., John A. and Gabriel Costa of Jefferson Hills, Donald N. Costa of North Huntingdon Twp.and Richard B. Costa of Greenock; daughters, Joann Gajdzik of Elizabeth Twp., Rita Cairns of Monongahela and Terry M. Costa of Glassport; 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; brother, Herman Costa of Elizabeth Twp.; and sisters, Grace Vicetic and Emma Jane Brosberino of Clairton.

John A. Jambor, 85, of Glassport died yesterday in Riverside Nursing Center, Inc., McKeesport. A former die reamer from Copperweld Bimetallics Division in Glassport, he was a member of Queen of the Rosary Parish and American Legion Post 443, both in Glassport, and Jednota Lodge 60 and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the 355th Corps of Engineers in Europe.

Born in Glassport, June 10, 1916, he was the son of the late Andrew and Elizabeth Kapsar Jambor. He is survived by his wife, Helen Gracan Jambor; son, John A. Jambor Jr. of Glassport; brother and sister, Joseph Jambor and Betty Gaydos of Glassport; nieces and nephews.

Born in Glassport, Aug. 22, 1923, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Mary Godfrey and the husband of the late Virginia Kimmell Godfrey. He is survived by daughters, Karen Williams of Norco, Calif., Nancy Letzo of Erie and Terri Foster of McKeesport; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren; and brother, Louis Godfrey of McKeesport.

A retired stenographer from Westinghouse Electric Corp., East Pittsburgh, she -was a member of First United Methodist Church, McKeesport, and the American Association of Retired Persons.

Born in Glassport, Jan. 2, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Hengust Sr. and Florence Auslander Robinson. She is survived by a sister, Jean Kemmerer of New Castle: brother, the Rev. Hengust Robinson Jr. of Beaver Falls; and nieces and nephews.

Stella Spyra Belcher, 71, formerly of McKeesport, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, in Jefferson Hills Manor, Inc. She was a former member of the Gems of Crawford Village, McKeesport.

Born Sept. 10, 1930, in Glassport, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Stephania Kuzmicha Spyra. She is survived by daughters, Georgeann F. Lesko of White Oak and Doreen M. Sarris of Eric; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

A blessing will be offered Monday at 10 a.m. by the Rev. F.B. Lachowicz in the Drew J. Gilbert Funeral Home, Inc., Boston, Elizabeth Twp. Interment will be in St. Mary Polish Cemetery, White Oak. No visitation is planned.

Leonard John (Bear) Barchanowicz, 76, of Glassport died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at home. Retired from Teledyne Firth Sterling with 24 years of service and as a presser from Fisher Body Division, General Motors Corp., West Mifflin, with nine years of service, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the Philippines and Australia and a member of Queen of the Rosary Parish and American Legion Post 443 in Glassport.

Born April 26, 1925, in Uniontown, he was a son of the late Charles and Blanche Sikorski Barchanowicz. He is survived by his wife, Clara F. Raisner Barchanowicz; son, Leonard J. Barchanowicz II; five grandchildren; brothers, Joseph Barchanowicz of Cleveland, Ohio, Al of Annapolis, Md., and Eugene of McKeesport; and sisters, Blanche Berletic of Boston, Pa., Patricia Smith of Greenock and Genevieve Smitcher of Lakewood, Ohio.

Memorial service will take place at a later date. Arrangements are in charge of the Cremation Organization, Inc. Memorial contributions have been suggested to the family.

A former Mount Pleasant resident, Harold Donald Baxter, 65, of Glassport died there Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, in Winters Haven, Inc. He was a former mechanic at Busy Beaver.

Born Nov. 9, 1936, in Dravosburg, he was a son of the late Harold Kenneth and Clara Williams Baxter and the husband of the late Margaret Gilligan Baxter. He is survived by a son, Harold D. Baxter Jr. of the South Side, Pittsburgh; daughter, Debbie Shipers of Blythedale; five grandchildren; brother and sisters, Jim Baxter and Clara Jane Smith of West Mifflin and Dorothy Goetz of Clairton.

Wife of the late George J. Ura, she is survived by daughter, Helen Robertson of Middleburg; son, Daniel Ura of McKeesport; eight grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

PAW PAW, W.Va. - Thomas Glenn Delawder, 70, of Paw Paw, died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.

Born May 18, 1930, in Glassport, Pa., he was the son of the late Harry Alston and Marjorie Mortimer Delawder.

He attended public schools in Paw Paw.

In 1991, after 43 years of service, he retired as a carpenter from CSX Railroad Maintenance of Way.

He was a member of Paw Paw Church of Christ.

He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 271 of Cumberland, Md.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Tiny Lou Bailey Delawder; a son, Thomas Wayne Delawder of Ridgely, W.Va.; two daughters, Tama Leigh of Berkeley Springs, W.Va. and Teresa Ilene Delawder of Paw Paw; two sisters, Betty Jane Shrout of Oldtown, Md. and Mary Moreland of Glen Burnie, Md.; three brothers, Richard M. Delawder of Oldtown, Eugene Delawder of Springfield, W.Va. and Arthur Robertson of Holt, Mo.; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, his twin, Jack Wayne Delawder and Harry Alston Delawder.

Graveside services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Woodrow Union Cemetery in Paw Paw. Evangelist Michael D. Collins will officiate.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St. in Berkeley Springs, which will open at 1 p.m.

Jack Harkins, 82

OCEANSIDE ---- Jack George Harkins, 82, died Thursday, July 6, 2000, at his home. Born Oct. 12, 1917, in Glassport, Pa., he lived in Oceanside for one year and previously lived in Vista for 19 years. He was the office manager for E.R. Moore Co. for 26 years and served as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army before retiring. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharist Minister, and of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Harkins was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathleen Margaret Betts, in 1996. He is survived by his wife, Margaret "Peg" Harkins of Oceanside; daughter Jacquelyn Trani of San Clemente; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Viewing will be held from 8 to 9 p.m., with a vigil service, on Monday, July 10, with the Rev. Ramon Marrufo officiating. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, at the church, with the Rev. Patrick Mulcahy officiating. A private cremation is planned. Inurnment will take place at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. Allen Brothers Mortuary, Vista Chapel, is handling arrangements.

REBECCA E. NOE

Rebecca E. Noe, 84, of Ada, died at 8:40 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2000 at Saint Rita's Medical Center, Lima.

She was born Jan. 7, 1916 in Glassport, Pa., to Margaret (Roberts) Gongaware, and was raised by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gongaware. She married James Reissig and he preceded her in death. She later married Glenn W. Noe on Oct. 13, 1995 and he survives.

Other survivors include two stepsons, Norman H. of Martinsville, N.J.; and Eric A. of Jackson, Miss.; and a step-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a stepson, Bruce.

Mrs. Noe was a librarian at Ada Public Library for 19 years and was also a teacher.

She was honored by President Truman for her service in the Red Cross during World War II as a volunteer.

She was a member of Junior Civic League, Ada, was a Friend of Norman Public Library in Pennsylvania and was involved in the Republican party in Pennsylvania.

Private memorial services will be held for the family.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be made to Ada Public Library, 320 N. Main St., 45810.

Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, is handling the arrangements.


The Review - Alliance, OH, February 8, 2001

George Streza

Services were Monday at the Hempel Funeral Home for former Alliance resident George Streza, 82, of Amherst, who died Friday at Community Health Partners H & S Center following a sudden illness. The Rev. Gary D. Bernath officiated the service. Burial was in Crownhill Cemetery.

A son of the late Daniel I. and Eugenia (Tzetzu) Streza, Mr. Streza was born May 11, 1918 in Glassport, Pa. He was raised in Alliance and lived in the community until 1939 when he moved to Detroit, Mich. He had been an Amherst resident since 1959. Mr. Streza was employed by the Ford Motor Plant in Lorain for 28 years, retiring in 1978 as a quality control engineer. Since 1959, he had been a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he was active on various church committees.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and traveling.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, June Dorothey (Badenhop); a son Daniel of Amherst; and a brother, John of Alliance. In addition to his parents, Mr. Streza was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia K. Ovak on Nov. 13, 1983.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund, 115 Central Drive, Amherst, Ohio 44001. (2-8-01)

William Brown

William H. Brown of Bedford, IN, formerly of Merriville, IN, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at this daughter's residence in Bedford. Born on July 16, 1918, in Glassport, PA, he was the son of Addison and Adeline Brown. He married Edith E. Brown (Brown is the maiden name) on November 30, 1942, and she preceded him in death.

Surviving are one daughter, Janice Gratzer of Bedford, IN; two sisters: Lois Medders of Pennsylvania and Claire Bowen of Arizona; two grandsons; two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife and one step-brother, Jim Middleton.

He was an iron worker for Local #395 in Hammond, IN. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Shriners, the Iron Workers Union Local #395, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Ruth I. Gentile, 76, of 16161 CR 46, Bellevue, died Friday, July 7, 2000, in Seneca County.

She was born Jan. 15, 1924, in West Elizabeth, Pa., to Charles Franklin and Edith Jane (Ralph) Doyle. Her husband, Olimpio Gentile, whom she married in April 1942, died in January 1975.

Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Robin (Cassandra) Gotham of Bellevue; and three grandchildren, Gwendolyn Mayer and Heather and Gregory Gotham.

A son, Anthony Gentile, and a brother, Charles Doyle, also are deceased.

Mrs. Gentile, a high school graduate, was a homemaker and also a floral arranger at Johnson the Florist in McKeesport, Pa., retiring in 1975.

A Bellevue resident for five and a half years, coming from Glassport, Pa., she was a member of the Glassport Methodist Church.

The Rev. Craig Forsythe of Glassport Methodist Church will be the officiant at the 3 p.m. Tuesday service in Jefferson Memorial Park Chapel. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Park.

Born in North Washington, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Susanna Milligan McQuaide. She is survived by her husband, John DeMidio; children, Elaine Thompson of Bethel Park, Fay Laska of West Mifflin, Carole Natale and Martha Fulmer of Forward Twp. and Teena Novotny of Elizabeth; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren; sister, Estelle M.
