This summer we join together as a community to worship each Sunday, in new ways, and with new people. It is important that all of us be mindful of those around us and the needs each person has concerning worship. At St. Christopher's we have several special needs individuals whose presence in worship is a blessing and at least potentially, a challenge. Several families bring a wheelchair to church when they worship, and canes and breathing machines are also in evidence from time-to-time.
One family has the challenge of worshipping with a son who is autistic. This child has very little speech, and a very limited understanding of appropriate social behavior. When he is tense or excited, he often emits a piercing scream. His parents do their best to control his behaviors, and are aware that he may occasionally distract other worshippers. (A salmon colored flyer is available at the back of the church to explain more about Autism.)
All of us are children of God, and we all need a church home and regular access to Holy Communion. We at St. Christopher's have made this church a home for all who worship God in this place. Please be considerate of all who present themselves to God in this place understanding the particular challenges some families have in managing difficult situations.
