RED RIBBON WEEKS
We cut red plastic ribbon and decorate Central and Ishi Hills.
We put up posters on the dangers of smoking. We tie
the red ribbon on Central's and Ishi Hills' door handles and other places.

At Central, in 2006, we put on assemblies on the
effects of drugs, especially meth.

Our PowerPoint presentation had some pictures from
2stopmeth.org. Canine demonstrations were a big hits.
We have different activities each year like coloring tobacco free bumper
stickers to give to younger children, rap contests, screams, and
even a "counting the cost" activity.
If students
calculated correctly math problems on the cost of smoking, they received a
mini key chain calculator. The cost of smoking, over years, was
greater than the cost of a new vehicle. The new car dealerships in
Oroville supported this concept by each providing a new car for students to
view when they turned in their calculations.

Early in the morning in 1999, we lined out the field for a massive Red Ribbon Week
message.

We measured everything.

Then, we staked out the letters with red ribbon so that all
Central's students could stand on them for an aerial photo.

Poster Contests at Wyandotte, Stanford Avenue, Oakdale
Heights, and Ophir Schools

We host pro-health poster contests at other schools. If possible,
the winning poster at each school, chosen by the students, is made
into a billboard.
