Wednesday, July 28th

Today was Quebec City day.

We drove downtown and parked so we could walk around the city. We lucked out and found a prime parking spot. Even the parking attendant was surprised we found such a good spot.

We walked around Vieux Quebec, the historic section. We stopped at a French-looking restaurant for lunch, Gambrinus. The outdoor seating area was packed, so we ate inside where it was quiet. It was a nice restaurant but not too expensive. We were a little intimidated by the generic menu which offered such delicacies as "Sandwich" and "Fish". After finding out what kind of fish "Fish" was (it was Whitefish), I ordered that and it was delixious. Mom and Beth enjoyed their meals also.

We walked around Quebec City some more, including the Governor's Walk and Plains of Abraham sections. We stopped by a book sale, but left after we realized all the books were en Francais. After we had done a lot of sightseeing, we headed back to the hotel to rest up before...

Fireworks! We got there ridiculously early but it's a good thing we did because the place was packed. We had a language barrier issue with some of the parking attendants but we were able to park the car. It was raining outside, so we stayed in the car until it was showtime. We passed the time by eating snacks and playing Hi Lo Jack, which is a little hard to play in a car, but we managed.

Soon, it was time to go find our seats. Mom wasn't feeling well, so she stayed in the car. She said she would join us if she felt better. Our seats turned out to be first row, so we had the best seat in the house for the outdoor fireworks show over the falls. Mom called us to say she was coming, which was good because we didn't want her to miss it. The show was short but it was exciting. There were lots of fireworks set to music. Beth and Mom both said this was a highlight of their vacation.
