Thursday, July 29th

Today was Drive Home Day.

By this point, I had been sick for a week. Mom was starting to get sick also, and Beth was really feeling the effects of not having her medicine. So we found a doctor and decided to make this our last day in Canada. The doctor didn't speak perfect English but he spoke enough of it to help me. I was having tightness in my chest that we thought might be pneumonia. He didn't think it was pneumonia, but he prescribed Tequin, an antibiotic, anyway. I'm glad he did because after a couple of days on the medication, I started to feel better.

The drive home was long but relaxed. We felt like we had accomplished a lot and had many great experiences during our vacation. On they way back through Customs, we had to talk to both a Canadian and an American Customs agent. The American customs agent asked us how much Canadian goods we were bringing home. He said "About $200 worth?" We told him the exact amount, which was about $350. He replied "So, about $200 worth?" We got the idea and agreed with him. On the way home, we drove through Franconia, a town in northern New Hampshire, that we had vacationed in many years ago. We stopped at the Dutch Treat restaurant for a mid-afternoon meal, a place we had eaten at during that other vacation.

We made it home safe and sound.
