Water Hazards are defined by both Yellow
and Red
stakes or lines.
What do they mean?
·
Yellow: Used to define Standard Water
Hazard from which you have three options:
1.
Play your ball out of the hazard without grounding your club at
address - (no penalty).
2.
Play another ball from where you last played - (one stroke
penalty).
3.
Drop a ball as far behind the hazard as you want, keeping the
point where the ball last crossed the hazard line between you and the hole -
(one stroke penalty).
·
Red: Used to define a Lateral Water Hazard from which you
have five options. The same as 1, 2, & 3 above, plus the following two
options:
1.
Drop a ball within two club lengths, no nearer the hole, from
where the ball last crossed the hazard line - (one stroke penalty).
2.
Drop a ball within two club lengths from a point on the opposite
margin of the hazard no nearer the hole than where the ball last crossed the
hazard - (one stroke penalty).
Also note that:
-
If your ball is touching the hazard line it is in the hazard.
-
You are allowed to clear loose impediments from the area in which
you are preparing to drop the ball.
-
If the hole has a designated drop area, local rules may either require
its use or offer it as an option. Check
the scorecard.
