The County of Cryllor is one of the two western
counties of Keoland. Cryllor is ruled by Count Ignas Manz of House
Bazrial, a somewhat despotic and crass ruler who is known for his
aggression and malice.
Due to a recent ailment, the Count’s daughter, Lora, is currently exercising rulership.
Cryllor is a relatively wealthy area of
Keoland.
Trade is crucial to Cryllor's wealth, with the rest of the
wealth coming from the mineral resources of the foothills of the
easternmost Jotens and the wealthy Good Hills mines that are within the
County, either directly through the mining operations or indirectly
through trades that rely on the plentiful,
cheap materials, thus resulting
in a much higher number of jewelers, goldsmiths, blacksmiths, weapon and
armor smiths, and so forth.
Cryllor has considerable problems with orcs,
ogres, trolls, and giants from the Lost Lands of Sterich and the deeper Jotens.
Likewise, banditry is a persistent problem in Cryllor,
aggravated by the border with Yeomanry: bandits often will set up their
camps in one kingdom and launch attacks in the other. Pursuing the
bandits across the river could lead to a border war, thus enabling them to
escape effectively.
The County has aggravated relations with Yeomanry by
pushing over the borders in expansionist drives and in efforts to control
the threats from the Jotens. Because the County has followed up on some
of these expansions by building mines, the Yeomanry is convinced that the
bandit and humanoid problems were just an excuse.
The County's population is overwhelmingly human (about 99%). Most
humans live on small farms and in villages scattered througout the County,
although significant numbers live in the City of Cryllor and in several
towns at key locations within the county.
The largest concentration of
dwarves anywhere in Keoland live in the County of Cryllor, nearly twice
the number of dwarves anywhere else in Keoland.
Almost all of the dwarves
live either in the City of Cryllor or in the mining camps in the Jotens,
and nearly 90% of the dwarves are refugees who did not live in Cryllor
prior to the Greyhawk Wars and the fall of Sterich.
There are also
notable gnomish and halfling populations, although only a few hundred of
each. These populations are overwhelmingly found in the portions of the
Good Hills within the County.
There are no appreciable numbers of elves living in Cryllor, although a few pass through from time to
time.
There are more half-orcs in Cryllor than in almost any other area
of Keoland because of the large numbers of orcs in Cryllor, but these
numbers are not significant (less than a hundred).
