HANDBALL CLASSES

Currently four one credit beginning handball classes, PE1029, are offered through the Physical Education Department.  The classes meet in the Rec Center on the bleachers in front of court 10.  There are 2 or 3 instructors for each class period.  Note your U-Card is required for entrance to the University Recreation Center.

The course has been designed as an introductory level activity program for handball players.  The first class period has a handball overview and handball equipment is handed out.  Handball gloves, eye protectors and a can of handballs are purchased for $35.  Thereafter, students need to dress in handball gear for every class period and be prepared to go into the courts.

Daily activities will focus on basic skills and fundamentals, learning appropriate handball etiquette and playing handball singles, doubles and threes.  Each class session ends with an in-class handball tourney.  Also, each semester the University of Minnesota Rec Center hosts a regional singles handball tournament in which students are encouraged to enter (see Upcoming Events and Tournament Results).

Currently four one credit beginning handball classes, PE1029, and one intermediate level class, PE1129, are offered through the Physical Education Department, School of Kinesiology. That means University of Minnesota students can be credited with two credits of handball. Completing PE1029 gives each student enough handball skills and knowledge in a lifetime sport so they can join any handball court club in the United States and play handball as a Novice or C player. Adding PE1129 gives each student tournament experience and expanded skills enough to move up to the next higher tournament level of C or B play.
